San Diego Chargers Will Not Retain Hal Hunter and Charlie Joine

The first move that Mike McCoy and the new regime that I am not too keen on. It had to happen at some point. The San Diego Chargers will not be bringing back Charlie Joiner to be the wide receivers coach next season, per Michael Gehlken. Joiner’s contract expired at the end of the year and the team will look in a different direction. Instead, McCoy will look to bring on some personnel that he is more familiar with. Or they will bring on more personnel from the Cardinals.

The Chargers also will not bring back “offensive coordinator” Hal Hunter. Hunter was also in charge of the offensive line. Former Cardinals and Steelers O-Line coach Russ Grimm is a possibility to take over as the new O-Line coach.

There are going to be new faces on that offensive coaching staff. Mike McCoy deserves a chance to bring in his own guys. I wish Joiner was part of the crew, but it looks like we will be looking in a different direction.

On the one hand, it sucks. On the other hand, we want to put in McCoy’s full system and we can’t be sentimental.

      ^This. Well said.

OK fans. If they bring in more Cardinal coaches we may be in touble. The Cardinals were 5 and 11 this past season..

the best way to get the most out of people is breaking them of their bad habits and there were plenty of bad habits under Norv.

This is the first one I’m sad about. Charlie is a San Diego Charger to the core and I hate to see him go. :-( Hal and his wife Tracy are such nice people I hope he finds something quick. I’m gonna trust McCoy here.

I am a little worried right now, brining in the coaching staff of the cardinals might be McCoy’s down fall, Cardinals did not do anything in the last few years….

True. And you should be concerned. However, they did fire the GM, presumably for the same reason AJ is not here. Lack of good personnel.
They did not have an answer after Warner retired. McCoy has Rivers. And so does the “Whis”.
So if your going to be concerned, let it be in context. They did not have a GM in Telesco that is willing to see the problem, and is addressing them.

      Food for thought.

Not happy about not Keeping Joiner, he is a legend and should remain with the Chargers. Fans have been thru enough heartache with players and legends being release in the past. Yep and they went out and got Superbowl rings. Not like how this is turning out.. Stop with bring on more personnel from the Cardinals. Did it occur to you that some of those reason’s they lost, could of come out way. Lets us not be doomed again.

Great teams surround themselves with their own alumni, creating a winning culture. Joiner was one opf the NFL best recievers during his time. Loosing his coaching will hurt as Brown, Floyd and the other recievers coached by him have all had great concentration and hands. GM’s need to understand that tradition in a football team is everything and when you start making it a Corporate turntable for your employees you’ve already lost.
