San Diego Chargers Officially Announce They Will Keep DC John Pagano

I guess there was some doubt about this, but we can definitely put that to rest now. The Chargers have made it official that they will be keeping John Pagano around to coach the defense for the second straight season, per Michael Gehlken. We needed to keep some sort of consistency on the coaching staff. Head Coach Mike McCoy had told Dean Spanos in the interview that he wanted to keep Pagano around to run the defense.

Pagano and the defense gained steam as the season progressed last year. Hopefully he can keep that momentum rolling into the next season and have his guys playing to a top level.

Mike McCoy, Ken Whisenhunt, John Pagano – our fearless leaders.

Other coaches on the defensive side of the ball – Don Johnson, Joe Barry and Greg Williams – will be retained as well, per Bill Johnston.

Glad to see him get a chance to prove last year was just the start. Not trying to get ahead of myself, or having pipe dreams just yet…. but I am glad we all have something new & exciting to look forward to, no matter what happens! These last two years have been a drag. So nice not to have to constantly read terms such as “Norv’d”, “mediocre”, “lord of no rings”, and “offensive genius” (when we are practically dead last in offense). Nor will I miss Norv’s consistent use of the phrase “awfully good” when speaking about players who are just plain awful.. eh-hem (Clary, Cason, & Green)… hahaha!

    • Nick in PB

You got that right Pete… we had so many terms defining the Norv and AJ era and they were never good. I always ended up screaming at the TV when Norv gave his post game news conference. I always wondered what game he was watching!

    • Stefanie Smith

You are so right, Pete. Nice to have some hope and not have to complain. We have to give these guys a chance and some time–they have a lot to do to repair what AJ Smith did to our team.

        WORD !!!!!

Score 1 for McCoy. He recognizes talent and smarts in Pagano.

Great job. i can’t see any reason why they would let Pagano leave. after all this is the same DC that shut down McCoy’s offense in the first half. On that note, it’s my opinion the reason we lost that game, is the inability of the offense to score anymore points. McCoy will need that magic from Pagano, because we play denver, the division champ, twice next season.
