San Diego Chargers Closing in on Deal With Mike McCoy

The San Diego Chargers are closing in on a deal to signing Denver Broncos OC Mike McCoy to be the new head coach on town, per Jason LaCanfora. It sounds like McCoy has already told the Broncos that he will be joining the division rival.

McCoy has been a big part of the Broncos offense for the last few years. He was able to make Kyle Orton look like a good quarterback and adjusted the game plan to make Tim Tebow successful. I can’t give him too much credit for Peyton Manning, because Peyton is just dang good.

We have a new head coach! Now, who will be bring in to support him as an offensive coordinator? It looks like John Pagano has a good chance of sticking around with the team also, with Tom Telesco hiring an offensive minded guy.

Can McCoy turn Philip Rivers around? That will be the biggest test for the new guy!

I was not so hot on him yesterday, but after doing a little research and hearing what a lot of the Broncos organization has to say about him I’m very happy with this pick! I also like the fact that we now have a young GM and young HC! Hopefully this is the start of a very successful 20 year regime in SD

    • tubbs45

Just PLEASE dont bring the Tebow circus to SD. Please…. I do like McCoy as a pick up though.

ESPN reported this morning, that McCoy informed Denver he will be accepting the San Diego Head Coach job.

  • Stefanie Smith

I like this guy. He honored his obligations to the Broncos then pursued this. He will be loyal to the Chargers also. Now, Telesco and McCoy can go and start looking for good pieces for the upcoming draft and come up with a plan for Rivers.

  • blu3ny3llow

Man im excited about the GM and HC….cant believe there’s people out there still complaining but o’well it is what it is……BOLTZ UP haters down

    • Ernie Padaon

there was always going to be someone to complain about who we brought in

    • Stefanie Smith

Same here. I like Telesco’s work ethic and his pick of McCoy. They are both innovative enough to make good calls in the draft, search for later round finds, and help Rivers come back to who he really is.

  • Stefanie Smith

Casserly was saying he thinks McCoy will have Pagano stay on as D coordinator.

    • tubbs45

He would crazy not to keep him. he did very well with the talent and seems to be well liked by the players.

  • Stefanie Smith

Everyone out there in the sports world still sees something in Rivers. Made me happy to hear that. These guys will help him a lot.

  • Lenzo Vaca

i hope the broncos are sending him to us just to sabotage us!!!

  • RussinSactown

If this is the case, then I’m excited to see how the team will shape up under McCoy. I think we needed to go in a different direction and shake things up. This is a shake up. As long as their ready to work, I’m confident about this.

  • @BOLTSFAN1972

We will see . If he fixes O-line Rivers will get better!!!

    • BiggsyBolt

That’s the thing everyone is forgetting, even the author of this post!

    • tubbs45

We’ll see the Draft and Free agency focus a lot of effort in 3 areas: OLine, Secondary, then Running Back. For Rivers to throw he need to be upright! Good call @BOLTSFAN1972

  • Lost_hic

Now we have the REAL “MCCOY”

    • Ernie Padaon

you get the award as the first person to say it on here! ha

      • Lost_hic

Have to give it to chargers org. Outstanding job!

  • Sergio Quintero

Really like the hire, 2 questions about him: 1) can he install the Peyton Manning offense in SD, can he give Rivers that much responsability, how will this offense look like? 2) Will McCoy handle the playcalling? it has worked in places like Green Bay, but didn’t work here last year?

  • tbell11

So the Chargers were looking for a young person to replace AJ Smith and they got Tom Telesco. They also wanted a young offensive minded HC to replace Norv Turner and they did just that today with Mike McCoy. So far so good for the Chargers off-season.

  • Joel Garcia

Everyone is saying how maybe he can jump start River again, im all for that !! But I believe he can get the running game going again since LT left.

    • Ernie Padaon

YES!!!! and that helps out with Rivers also! He did coach McGahee into a Pro Bowler! Wonder if that running game jump start will be with Ryan Mathews or with someone else?
