Mike McCoy and Gus Bradley Leading Candidates For Chargers Job?

Adam Schefter believes that the San Diego Chargers head caoching vacancy will come down to Seattle Seahawks DC Gus Bradley or Denver Broncos OC Mike McCoy. Both teams of the respective coaches were eliminated from the playoffs this weekend and are available for Tom Telesco to bring back in for interviews.

Bradley was the first candidate that Telesco brought in for an interview. He is a defensive minded coach and made the Seahawks one of the most respected defenses in the NFL.

After McCoy was eliminated from the playoffs this weekend, he was immediately brought in for an interview yesterday. He has been successful in adapting with all kinds of different quarterbacks and would be looking to turn Philip Rivers around.

Both candidates are making their rounds among teams looking to fill that head coaching vacancy. If the Chargers want to hire one of them, they will have other teams to compete with.

Personally, I like the idea of hiring either candidate.

Both are hot coordinators who had semi-dissapointing weekends, my big question with Bradley is: who would be his OC and what will he do about John Pagano. On McCoy can he install the Manning offense in San Diego, or will he run the spread offense Kyle Orton ran in Denver 2009-2011, which had not so many audibles.

i think McCoy will definitely adapt to Rivers. He has flipped things around for whoever the QB they had was.

if they hire Gus, Pagano will be working for the Browns… And that would SUCK!

Agreed, the Chargers can’t let Pagano leave.

Only Manning can run the Manning offense. He has some sort of ability to teach his receivers.

I like McCoy…..im just really hoping they dont miss out on a good coach if they decide to wait to interview Roman

yea.. waiting for roman would be a mistake. Sucks for Roman, but it is the price to pay for being on a good team.

I’m sure ill catch some flack for this.. But how come there is no discussion about Josh McDaniels? I really think the guy deserves another shot as a HC! History has shown that coaches can have great success on there second go around

oh boy. im sure you will get flack for it too…

and i may also. i wouldnt mind seeing him get a shot either

You never know, Bill Bellicheat had a horrible first run at HC with the Browns. My issue is that all his proteges have been failures not just once but multiple times Crennel in Cleveland and KC, Charlie Weis, Eric Mangini in NY and Cleveland and McDaniels in Denver. But the bigger problem was McDaniel’s ego got in the way of his personnel decisions getting rid of Cutler, Marshall, Hillis and Scheffler and trading a first round pick to draft Alphonso Smith only to trade him away the next season is reminiscent of AJ Smith’s bonehead moves like trading multiple picks including a 2nd rounder for Hester a back too slow to be a RB and too small to be a FB

Theres reports out there saying Josh McDaniels supposedly isnt going to interview for any open HC job anywhere and will stay with the Pats

So for those of you who like to read between the lines, Spanos sent his privet jet to pick up McCoy in Denver and bring him back to San Diego this morning. That says something to me knowing that when Lovie Smith interviewed he had to fly a commercial jet from Chicago.

LOL. on some levels, if that isn’t writing on the wall….

  • arnie

At this point ernie, as long as neither of them are carrying a play calling sheet. i don’t care who it is. please no more play calling HC.

  • NolongerSDFan

    SD ownership is a JOKE!!

wondering who you wanted to be the head coach? Would be dreaming for Gruden or Cowher. Everyone else has the same question marks as McCoy.
