Cleveland Browns Want To Bring In John Pagano As Defensive Coordinator

John Pagano is a wanted man. The San Diego Chargers fans want him to stay and coach the defense with whoever is brought in as the new head coach. The Cleveland Browns also want to bring him in as their defensive coordinator.

Former Chargers coaches Rob Chidzinski and Norv Turner are headed out to Cleveland and they want to bring on Pagano also. Pagano wouldn’t be able to join the Browns unless the Chargers release him from his contract. He won’t be released from that contract until the Chargers decide who they are bringing on as their head coach.

If the new head coach in town wants to keep Pagano around, then he will still be coaching our defense. If the new guy wants to bring on his own staff, then Pagano could be a free agent for anyone to sign.

I love the way Pagano and the defense turned it on at the end of last season. It would be another adjustment the team would have to deal with if Pags is gone, but the head coach should be able to choose huge staff that he wants. If Pags is the guy, then awesome. If not, oh well.

The Kansas City Chiefs asked for permission to interview Pagano, but they were denied. Why would we let him go to a division rival?

The Chargers defense respects Pagano and if he leaves that is a step into the wrong direction.

i really do hope he stays, im so tired of the revolving door at D cor. we’ve had the past few years. we need consistency on that side of the ball. we have so many young talented players on that side that need to keep moving in the right direction and in the same direction in which John has groomed. like tbell11 said the D respects John, u always hear players speak so highly of him. i hope he stays and not just for one more season, im hoping for a few more seasons. he is a young D cor.,and is only going to get better as time goes on.

Interesting that the Chargers denied the Chiefs request. We might get the same thing with Denver’s OC when we inquire about him. I for one, want Pags to stay. He got our D going in the right direction. With the young players on the roster, I would think he would want to stay.

You can deny requests for lateral moves, i.e. from DC to DC, but cannot deny requests for promotions in the NFL. So Denver cannot deny McCoy interview with the chargers.

Thanks Sergio! That clears that up!

The only way I see Pagano leaving is if the chargers hire a defensive HC (Bradley or Zimmer), but if any of the offensive background guys gets the job which is the most likely, we can expect him to stay.
