According to Jason LaCanfora, Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy and Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator are on the Chargers radar for the head coaching vacancy as well.

Here is the list of potential candidates that have been rumored for interviews just today:

Gus Bradley, Seattle Seahawks OC – interviewed yesterday
Lovie Smith, former Chicago Bears HC- interviews today
Ken Whisenhunt, former Arizona Cardinals HC – interviews tomorrow
Bruce Arians, Indianapolis Colts OC – interviews Monday
Mike McCoy, Denver Broncos OC – not scheduled
Jay Gruden, Cincinatti Bengals OC – not scheduled
Mike Zimmer,  Cincinatti Bengals DC – not scheduled

That is quite a mix of candidates for the Chargers vacancy. Tom Telesco has barely sat in his office, but the boy is putting in work!

I thought Zimmer was on their list too?
Looks like a good list. I’m not crazy about Lovie or Whisenhunt, but the others (especially McCoy imo) are exciting to consider as a HC

zimmer did get mentioned also. will add him to the list

For every candidate I get excited about, there seems to be a reason NOT to be so excited. Ugh! I think we’ll have to trust on Telesco to make the right decision. I do know one thing, I don’t want it to be Mora Jr. No way, now how!

looks more and more like that is not going to happen… no way no how :)

Sure hope it doesnt happen, retread city.

Thanks Ernie! Too much talk about him was making me crazy!

yea. it drove me nuts also, but it looks like UCLA is going to do all he can to keep him there.

Jim Mora Jr. has over 11million reasons to stay at UCLA. he has great gig, to leave after being burned, twice, in the NFL would be insane.

None of them are going to be perfect, but Mr. T is putting in the time to get a good fit for Chargers’ coach. But hey,it’s going to be better than it was. I can feel it.

      • Nick in PB

No doubt. I think the Chargers new coach will have a lot to work with and can hopefully get more out of this team then Norv did. With so many teams looking for head coaches, I hope we get the best of the bunch.

Interesting list… still a couple of sleeper candidates not mentioned:

John Gruden (not really a sleeper), Dean Pees (ravens DC), Rick Dennison (Texans OC) – John Spanos hinted at the last two yesterday

  • Tom Spalsbury

    I still want Marty back.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

hahahaha… we will always want marty back… haha

Any of them would be great, except for Mora or Josh McD, in my opinion. But I seriously believe we need more of an offense minded coach, and give Pagano the chance to take the D further. No reinventing the wheel. That’s why I think Lovie would not work.

I like this Telesco. He is putting in the effort and seems pleasant and not a pain in the a** as AJ was.

  • blu3ny3llow

Im excited about the list of candidates i just hope they keep the 3-4 defense…obviously would want pagano to stay but Chargers dont have the personel for a 4-3 ….i think

I have to say, I don’t like this Seahawks’ candidate. Hard to believe he would jet on down here to interview in the middle of a playoff run. I would question his focus. After all, he is paid to do a job—that is for Seattle right now, not interviewing with the Chargers. Maybe this is just a media story that is incorrect.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Sounds like he is interviewing with the Eagles today.

Then he is truly ignorant and disrespectful to his employer-the Seattle Seahawks. McCoy has the focus. He is not interviewing right now. Sure he will have ample coaching opportunities after the playoffs/possible SB.
