The head coaching search is getting hotter and hotter! More and more names are being talked about.
Former Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith is here today to interview and former Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt will be here tomorrow to interview for the head coaching vacancy, per Kevin Acee.
Tommy Telesco brought in the two guys with the most head coaching experience first. Both head coaches have proven that they can take a team to the Super Bowl and have led winning squads. That should set the bar for some of these coordinators that he will be bringing in for interviews.
Whisenhunt has struggled the last couple of seasons as the head coach of the Cardinals. His biggest struggle has been at the quarterback position. He had to try and make Kevin Kolb and John Skelton work. It started out promising this season, but still crapped out at the end.
Whisenhunt did help rejuvenate Kurt Warner when he came over. He almost won the Super Bowl with Warner leading the charge. Could Whisenhunt do the same with Philip Rivers? If Whisenhunt is brought on, he could keep John Pagano to run the defense as well. It would be a nice fit.
Whisenhunt has a career 45-51 record as a head coach. He won the Super Bowl as the offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XL over the Cards. He has 2 losing season in his 6 year stint as a head coach. Considering that he coached the Arizona Cardinals, that is not too shabby.
It’s nice to finally see some names coming in for interviews. This first hire by Tom Telesco will be huge.
