San Diego Chargers Select Tom Telesco As New GM

THe San Diego Chargers have selected their man. Indianapolis Colts’ Tom Telesco will be the new GM in town and will get all our praises or all of our insults, per Mike Chappell.

Why would we just promote Jimmy Raye for the position, if we can have both Jimmy Raye and Tom Telesco in office? That must have been the thinking on the part of Dean Spanos and Ron Wolf.

Now, for the first order of business for Mr. Telesco, find some weapons and protection for Philip Rivers. We need a left tackle, a left guard, a running back, a cornerback, a safety…. and on and on and on and on.

Oh, we still need to hire a head coach. Remember, anyone is better than Norv Turner, but that doesn’t mean that we will like whoever you hire for the job either.

    Good choice, time for change

  • Stefanie Smith

Just give it a chance. We screwed around with AJ and Norv for a long time. Wait until we see what they can do. AJ and Norv left the team beat up, lacking, etc. The way I figure, the only way is up.

I believe, that at least the Spanos family was open minded and did not automatically select in house. Jimmy Raye can still be valuable. But I read on that I think the Jets are requesting to be allowed to interview Jimmy Raye for the GM job…I could be wrong that it was the Jets but some team wants an interview with Jimmy Raye.

Well, you already have the Raye interview with the Jets posted on your site.. so there you have it.

    • Ernie Padaon

Yea they are. Just posted something about Raye and the Jets here also

      • arnie

if he’s hired, first thing he does is look for an OC, that work miracles with sanchez. an look for a new QB.

  • RussinSactown

Well we need a new direction. The AJ way has pretty much depleted the team. Having someone who has been a part of a winning program will do us a lot of good. If this guy is as good as I think he is, I am confident he’ll improve the roster and find a coach that can make this team a contender again. Give him time and space and let’s just let him work.

  • davacho

ask any fan of any NFL team if they are happy with the roster and they will say “no.” there will always be holes on both sides of the ball.

good coaches take the roster they are dealt and find ways to win games. our roster will never be perfect, but i think from the mgmt on down we can instill a culture of toughness, passion and winning. our new coach will be the catalyst… oh and our D will be beast next year. : )

    • Brandon Reisinger

Our D will be beast next year if……. Our next HC keeps Pagano around, 99.9% sure it will be Arians though and all signs point to him retaining at least most of the defensive staff

      • Ernie Padaon

i don’t think that the Defense is dependent on having Pagano. Think that other people can get success out of that unit. There is talent on that side of the roster.

        • Brandon Reisinger

Oh i agree that someone else could come in and have success. But Pagano has been around all of our players for the majority of there careers and i’m sure is very well respected in the locker room. With a season under his belt as coordinator i’m sure there is no one that knows our units strengths and weaknesses like he does. If there is someone new that comes in, that is something that would take some time to develop in my opinion. Not to mention that our D is just starting to get rolling, then someone new comes in and might change the system around? I’m not a fan of that

          • Ernie Padaon

i will give you that. He knows the guys better than anybody.

          • arnie

Also to trail Brandon, they need consistency some where. we fired the offensive genius Norv, an lost Bisaccia. that’s two coaching changes, as well as a lot of FA to sort through. For new GM it would be to much to ask to over come in his first year. Pagano has the D playing well, let him continue to do it.

  • James P Derrick

Finally!!!!Now can they hire a HC that doesn’t call a run on 1st Down up the gut? Please hire a coach that can instill discipline and get the players to play to their full ability…..We can only hope the Chargers turn it around quickly and get back to winning….. When are they showing #52 the door?????

    • Ernie Padaon

he is the least of the issues. he might actually stick around with SP and Barnes free agents. Let’s see what the GM thinks of Gaither and Meachem when he sees the tape!

      • James P Derrick

True true….what about footage on my other fav (sarcasm here) Clary????? Lol

        • Ernie Padaon

hahaha… he will probably wonder why he took this job after looking at the o-line!

          • James P Derrick

Ya Think!? Just ecstatic the team finally has a GM. I’ve been checking via my phone and finally got the great news. O is the side of the ball with the more glaring issues…One step at a time….

      • tubbs45

Wait, we have tape on Gaither from this year… oh yeah all that tape of him sitting on his ass playing madden….

        • Ernie Padaon

          hahahahahahahahaha… hilarious!

  • tiiiiiiiiiiit11

I hope Chargers don’t hire Arians. Yeah it was nice what he helped do last year in Indy but look at the rest of resume. 21-39 record as head coach. Pretty much fired from Pittsburgh before going to Indy. He’s 60 and not bringing young energy to the table.

    • Ernie Padaon

i hear you on that. i hope we go in a different direction also

      • arnie

don’t count on it. they need an offensive leader, and Arinas can help rebuild the offensive staff. Not sayin’ he’s the right guy, just tryin’ to get into the Chargers heads.

        • Ernie Padaon

Oh. he seems to make too much sense in what the Chargers want to do. we will see who gets brought in for interviews and then we can narrow it all down from there.

    • DougM

Let go from Steelers because they wanted to go back to a strong rushing attack. Big Ben was pi$$ed that they let him go.

  • arnie

    i am officially excited again.

  • Stefanie Smith

The only guy I am opposed to is Mora. (and Josh McDaniels)

  • Joel Garcia

Obviously its a new direction, but its the right one this new GM we have is hungry and dedicated which it seems like he is addicted to work and football. He started planning what do with the team before he was even hired that shows you a lot of dedication and love he has for the sport. Even more from what we have had before, because it always felt that the Chargers front office never had the same love and desire for the team as us fans, but guess what now we do. Just hope we get the right coach to lead us through the light.
