San Diego Chargers GM: Tom Telesco

Bringing back this info on Tom Telesco from Naptowns Finest’s Adam Hughes:

Telesco seems to know NFL talent and opposing teams very well, thanks to his strong scouting background. He hasn’t had a huge chance to earn his chops on the draft side, but I’m sure he has strong ideas there.

In terms of personality and ability to build a team, it’s probably telling that Telesco survived the Colts’ front-office massacre last season, even after Grigson was brought in. That likely means that he’s smart enough for the job and flexible enough to adapt when situations change. The Polians’ rigidity and haughtiness apparently didn’t rub off on Telesco. Grigson also speaks highly of him.

So, Telesco is a young guy with good potential, but still some decent-size unknowns.

He is not an arrogant a-hole like AJ Smith. PLUS!. He wasn’t the brains behind the drafts? That is not too bad, since their drafts have been pretty crappy for a while. Isn’t it in his job description though to scout for drafts though?

Everyone is going to have their unknowns. Let’s see what the KID has with his first hire.

Not an a-hole. Upgrade. New to draft game. Given how good AJ did with draft and retention of quality, still a good upgrade. Possibility to drag Arians with him to coach, huge upgrade.

Well, one immediate observation that makes him totally different than AJ Smith. He is charming. Likeable. AJ would have none of that. Good for Chargers to improve their image. Plus he thinks having Phillip Rivers is a plus. He sees the problems are in other places.

I think it is telling that no team is beating down AJ’s door to interview him.
