Chargers Latest Head Coaching Rumor Includes Mike Holmgren

by coaching search

The latest head coaching candidate to enter in the mix for the San Diego Chargers is former Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren, via Jason LaCanfora. Holmgren has not coached since 2008 and he most recently was the team president for the Cleveland Browns.

With Ron Wolf in the mix helping the Chargers find a General Manager and a Head Coach, it was just a matter of time till Holmgren’s name would be linked with the Bolts. Wolf and Holmgren worked together in Green Bay and won a championship together.

Holmgren would get a chance to work with Philip Rivers and build up the offense. He had previously worked with quarterbacks Steve Young, Brett Favre and Matt Hasselbeck.

Kevin Acee says that hiring Holmgren would go against the Chargers desires to stay away from retreads. I guess that means we wouldn’t want to look at Jon Gruden either.
