Any coach that comes around San Diego might get asked about a possible position opening up with the San Diego Chargers. The latest coach to be asked about the position is UCLA Head Coach Jim Mora. Mora is in town because he has led his Bruins to the Holiday Bowl.
Mora owns a house in San Diego, was married in Point Loma and started his NFL career with the San Diego Chargers. He was pretty much the team errand boy. He was designated with the title “quality control coach” under Don Coryell.
Mora has had his chance in the NFL as the main guy with the Atlanta Falcons and the Seattle Seahawks. Both times he was fired after leading his team to losing seasons. He has only had one winning season in his NFL career.
He was asked about the possible opening in San Diego and responded with, “I’m not going to talk about the Chargers. The Chargers have a head coach who’s a very good friend of mine. I’m not going to disrespect him by by saying anything about that job.”
Doesn’t that sound like “don’t ask me that question until Norv is gone!” Interesting that his response wasn’t, “I am not interested in going to the NFL and I am only focused on winning this next game.”
If you wanted a head coach that is going to act like Pete Carroll and yell his brain out on the sideline, here is your guy! Unfortunately he may put his foot in his mouth too often and he also has not proven to be a winner.
