Tyrann “Honey Badger” Mathieu Will Enter NFL Draft. Would You Take A Chance?

The Honey Badger will enter the 2013 NFL Draft and could be a huge risk/reward type candidate for a team in need of a corner and return specialist. Tyrann Mathieu showed that he is an explosive playmaker last season with LSU, but he was suspended for the season for a substance abuse issue. He was also arrested last month on a possession of marijuana charge. He has his issues off the field but is explosive on the field.

If AJ Smith is still calling the shots as GM for the team, there is no way that we would bring on someone with that background onto the roster. AJ wants to have high character players all over the roster. He seems a fit for a team like the Lions, Raiders or Bengals, but there will be teams that will want his tremendous talent on the field.

Would you take a chance on the Honey Badger?

There is no way that I could risk a first round draft pick on a player with that background, but if he is still around in the third or even the second, let me get after him. Antoine Cason and Quentin Jammer are both free agents. We probably will bring Jammer back so that he can close out his career here and he could be a good veteran to show him the ropes in the NFL. Learn a season from Jammer and then play alongside Shareece Wright in the secondary.

Why not? I’d rather draft a guy with character concerns over weed than a guy with character concerns that stem from him being a bad teammate or not caring enough about football. Neither of those last two problems are issues with Mathieu.

I think he’d get along great with Bigby

When i read your title my first thought was, eh, maybe in 2nd or 3rd round. So i agree with you completely.

Why not a 3rd rounder. If he makes it that far, Janoris Jenkins only dropped to the top of round 2. Hopefullythe new GM won’t be so hardheaded I was hoping they’d take Burfict with their 7th rounder last year but we all know AJ wouldn’t make that pick. Mathieu would allow them to dump both Goodman and Cason so I think why not take a shot with a mid round pick

    The next Cromartie.

I’d rather have a guy with character flaws than a great guy that comes in injured (How can you burn a draft pick on a guy with a torn pec?)

Maybe 3rd round. Doubtful tho. But we do need CB help. Cason is out.

At the moment until Norv bows out nicely and resigns from the Chargers LSU could beat the Chargers if they played 3 times LSU wins 2. Same as the Pads.
