Chargers Upcoming Free Agents

Christopher Hanewinckel-US PRESSWIRE

Already promoted a 2013 mock draft today, so I might as well keep on the theme of the future of this team. Here are the upcoming free agents for the Chargers.

Restricted Free Agents:
Seyi Ajirotutu
Danario Alexander
Curtis Brinkley
Richard Goodman
Mike Windt

Unrestricted Free Agents
Antwan Barnes
Jackie Battle
Ronnie Brown
Chris Carr
Antoine Cason
Aubrayo Franklin
Tyronne Green
Rex Hadnot
Quentin Jammer
Corey Lynch
Vaughn Martin
Nick Novak
Shaun Phillips
Dante Rosario
Louis Vazquez
Demorrio Williams

The players that were italicized are starters

Who on that list would be top priorities? Which one of the starters will likely see their last season in the blue and gold?

Of course a lot will depend on who is leading this team and who is making these decisions at GM.

The defense has a bunch of starters that will be free agents. Both corners are free agents, but most of you wouldn’t mind getting a new pair of guys back there anyway. Shareece Wright already looks like he is making a push for a starting job next season.

What do the Chargers do with Shaun Phillips? He leads the team in sacks, but the Chargers could use Melvin Ingram in a starting role if he moves onto another team. He would be ANOTHER talented player that we would let walk away though. I would rather see Ingram and Phillips coming off of the edges on every down.

Which players should the Chargers keep hanging around and who do they need to cut ties with?

I don’t think either are quality starters but there is zero depth to this teams o-line so the Chargers almost have to retain Green and Vasquez. Novak should return if he doesn’t ask for too much. Jammer probably has to come back, but he is slowing down and it shows. Phillips should have been traded for something by now. We may lose him for nothing which again, points back to AJ. Phillips and Ingram would be intriguing but expensive considering Johnson’s deal. In a year where it was put up or shut up, AJ failed in nearly everything he did.

Good grief. that’s a lot of free agents. i don’t know where to begin, so i won’t. All i’ll say is, a handful of those players need to be resigned. not because they are awesome, simply because, who else do they turn to?

Restricted FA’s Keep DX, Seyi for depth, Windt is vital, Goodman can go, and Brink was cut anyways yesterday.

    UFA’s

Even though they don’t have a lot left I say keep Jammer and Philips as long as they’re cheap, might as well keep them around for depth and let ‘em retire here.Franklin, Novak, Barnes, Martin and Vasquez should be priority resigns. Green and Hadnot can walk. Cason I feel should be allowed to walk just based on how terrible his tenure here has been, but let’s all just agree not to be pissed off if he has a decent season w/ the Lions or whatever next year.Lynch, Rosario, and Carr are all quality St-er’s and backups so I’d like to keep them all for cheap. Battle, Williams, and Brown I see as moving parts, keep ‘em or replace ‘em with the same quality FA’s from somewhere else. They don’t bring anything special to the team we can’t find on the market.
