2013 NFL Mock Draft: And The Chargers Select…

I guess it is time to start looking toward the future of this team. Fansided already has released their first mock draft of the season a couple of days ago. Right now the Chargers are just sitting outside the top 10 in the draft with the 11th pick. Here is who they have for the Chargers selection at number 11:

11. San Diego Chargers – Sam Montgomery|DE/LSU
Last season the Chargers took Melvin Ingram and by taking Montgomery this year they’ll have two of the countries top defensive pass rushers on their line. San Diego has struggled to get pressure on opposing quarterbacks this year but with Montgomery, those problems should disappear

Defensive end/outside linebacker is not exactly a position the Chargers should be focusing with the first pick of the draft. We need to fix that offensive line! That has to be our number 1 focus in the offseason. Philip Rivers has no confidence in the boys up front. Our running game still has not had a 100-yard rusher the whole season! Fix that offensive line!

If we don’t select someone for the offensive line with the first pick, then we need to go for a cornerback.

We could even use a middle linebacker to take over for Takeo Spikes’ spot. Could we see another Samoan in the middle of our defense? Manti Te’o from Notre Dame?

Our defensive line is pretty solid right now. We have Corey Liuget and Vaughn Martin starting and we also have Kendall Reyes. In the middle we have Cam Thomas and hopefully we can bring back Aubrayo Franklin for another season.

With a top 10 pick, which we keep sliding closer to, we need to select the best player on the board. We will have to fill the other holes on the roster with free agency or later in the draft.

Manti Te’o is not a first round pick.

how is he not a 1st round pick. He can cover, play the run, and can catch the ball. Seems to have a knack for being around the ball.

      • Chris Hudson

not as strong as you think on against the run but still worthy of a 1st round

Definitely think he will be a first round pick… But agree with
          that assessment against the run

          • lblocz

with his run skills okay would it hurt our run d or is it better then spikes right now? We know his coverage is much better than spikes.

I think we need to find a replacement for Spikes. To me Te’o would be the starter over Spikes… And we cut Spikes

I agree Spikes needs to go, He is one of the main reasons we get no pressure on the QB, 3 Years ago the Niners let him go because he was “Done” then he started for us……

      another seau

    Priorities: 1-OL 2-CB 3-ILB

I would favor picking up Miss. State CB Johnthan Banks in first round, addressing OL throughout the rest of our picks, and picking up a veteran lb in the offseason.

However, I wouldn’t mind having the OT from Texas A&M or Michigan and maybe the CB from FSU in the 2nd round

We should grab lb Rolando Mcclain. Raiders just released him after two years, he’s dyeing to be on a real team. GET HIM!!!

      • veazy

        Rolando McClain…

  • JoseSD

Joeckel from Texas A&M for LT move Harris to RT release clary for the cap space. Or a CB

  • RussinSactown

Sorry, we need O linemen. I’m tired of watching Rivers run for his life. And we need a few quality linemen, not just one and an undrafted guy from Podunk U or someone with a torn pec (WTF AJ???) If that means we trade down to get a couple quality guys, then so be it.

  • coachwill13

O line first and second round would be fine with me.

  • tbell11

If the Chargers lose both starting CB’s then they should still draft an LT from Texas a&m or Michigan. If both are gone then draft an CB from Alabama(if we keep on losing) or CB Banks from Miss. St. And finally,if all those people are gone somehow, get a WR Kennan Allen or WR Justin Hunter. They can address the OLB position in round 3 with OLB Chase Thomas from Stanford. Ideal first 3 picks though would be LT round 1, CB round 2, and OLB in round 3. Thoughts? By the way fire Norv and Smith.

we should follow the same footsteps the 49ers took a couple years ago when they selected 2 linemen in iupati and adams… we need a dramatically improved line, that is priority number 1,2,and 3.

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

If they can Get Joeckel early that would be great, but they need to loose more to do so. If he’s gone we should go with the best player possible then take OL in the 2nd and 3rd and 4th.
