Chargers Need to Let The Kids Play

The recess bell has rung and it is time to let the kids play!

Donald Butler, Atari Bigby and Eric Weddle all were injured in the game against the Ravens. Butler and Bigby likely will miss the next game and Weddle should be given an extra day of rest. With the playoff hopes dwindling, it is time to see what some of the kids can offer for the future.

Andrew Gachkar looked good in the middle of the defense filling in for Butler. Let him see more time. Let’s get Jonas Mouton out there getting more experience. Time to let Melvin Ingram loose. Let’s see what Brandon Taylor can do at safety.

The hopes for the playoffs are basically gone, but we can now let some of these kids get some experience and show if they can produce at the NFL level.

Maybe we can let Ryan Mathews be an every down back. Give some time to Ladarius Green at tight end. Let Shareece Wright start at corner. Get Kendall Reyes in the game more. There are youngsters on this team that need to grow.

There still are games left and now we can use them to see what youngsters can make an impact in 2013. Let the kids play!

Larry English can stay on the bench though.

Lol @ “keep Larry English on the bench”. I would LOVE to see what Ingram, Reyes, Taylor, and Green can do! They need to at least give them a shot at a “mention” in that rookie of the year discussion. I would even let Molk get some time in at center, too. Maybe Hardwick could get some rest, and kick around the idea of staying next year? But, if that happens, I would keep Rivers on the bench, and let Clipboard go in. No sense in exposing our #1 QB to TOO much rookie O-Line action. He’s been through enough, and Clipboard could use some time on the field to keep him sharp (in case Rivers does go down in the future). I don’t think there is a Charger Fan out there who would complain about this, even if we get blown out. This year has been as embarrassing as it can get, anyway. All it would mean would be experience for our rookies, keeping our starters healthy, and perhaps some better draft picks. This fan is SOLD on the idea 110% ; )

Having said that… Norv would have to actually make that decision. Do you think he would be interested in shaping our rookies for 2013? He probably won’t even be coaching our team by then (I hope). I think he would probably want to finish out the season “strong” with the starters, so that he could end on a good note for his next coaching job. Put more W’s in his “all-time wins” column. Weak.

this is exactly why we need to fire norv now! isn’t it obvious keeping norv is jsut extending the inevitable and stunting the growth of every player on this team especially the rookies. Spanos/AJ need to grow some balls and make a move.

That would be a nice idea Ernie, an Norv should take it up. Whether or not he’s here next year, norv should give some of the young guys a chance to shine, just in case some of them are not here either.
