Yesterday’s San Diego Chargers (4-6) game at the Denver Broncos (7-3) started off with some promise, but quickly turned in to the Chargers follies this season has taught us to expect. It’s not like in week three when the Chargers were looking like a team that had it going on I predicted that they would be headed to the playoffs and possibly the Super Bowl to NFL.com. Oh wait, I did.
I had every reason in the world to brag. The Bolts were dominating on all sides of the ball. Everyone was healthy and excited. I am not sure where those guys have been the last five weeks, but I miss them. I got to see them when KC came to San Diego which gave me a glimmer of hope. But after yesterdays game in Denver, against the team we had to beat, that glimmer is gone.
Most of the game was a cluster of bad play calling and mistakes. In the first half, the defense looked great and put nine points on the board. These came off a pick six and a safety. Unfortunately, while the defense was showing the Broncos who’s boss, the offense was doing nothing. The Chargers had a total of 10 punts, with one being blocked. Something that I thought was fixed.
I quite honestly do not have the energy to dissect the 23-30 loss. This game could have been won by the Chargers if not for the same things we find ourselves talking about week after week. Rivers throwing an interception directly to the opponent, play calling that is worse than my five year old playing Madden, an offensive line that has no idea what is going on and a complete misuse of some of the most talented offensive guys in the game. Gates had 17 total yards!
Our beloved Chargers are falling apart and this team needs to be rebuilt from the top down. Otherwise, we will be seeing more of the same.
Tear down, rebuild, win.
