LT – “Dean Spanos Gave Them One More Chance”

Former San Diego Charger Ladanian Tomlinson is referring to AJ Smith and Norv Turner and what he says was Dean Spanos ultimatum for this season.  On a panel interview for NFL Network Tomlinson speaks frankly that he believes Spanos will fire both at the end of the season if a trip to the playoffs is not secured.

“I think they are gonna get fired” is the first thing out of his mouth when he is asked what should happen in San Diego.  He goes on to talk about how Marty was fired because AJ Smith did not like him.  Smith made promises when he brought Turner on board and those promises have not been kept.  “Three straight years of not making the playoffs is enough” LT goes on to say and then finishes the thought with “Dean Spanos, the President of the Chargers gave them one more chance to right the ship, and if the don’t make it this year guys, that’s it.”

LT came back and retired as a Charger and is in the thick of this.  I think he hit the nail on the head.  We will see how this plays out in January.

Even if we make the Playoffs they are both gone. The only thing that can save them is a Superbowl win.

    P.S. I miss LT :(

We can only hope… I miss him too, such a great guy, player, etc. He was the heart of our team.

I’m a Lifelong Chargers fan and don’t disagree with his comments, but they hardly surprise me considering that he was let go under both Norv and AJ’s watch. Hell of a player, one of the greats , but I’ll never forget his mopey woe is me attitude in the play-offs, sitting alone on the sidelines and not cheering while his team fought on….

Football is like chemistry but unlike chemistry, every element is unstable because in order to build a championship team one must have every player and coaching staff on the line, complementing each other and with one goal in mind. Every NFL player has talent but has to be put in the right situation, for example, when we had Brees he play poorly sometimes and most analysts said he was an average quarterback at best, then the injury happened, went to New Orleans via Miami and we all know what happened. The same can be said about Rivers, he plays the Hyde and Jekyll game driving every Charger fan crazy but we must look beyond the obvious and see that he is a product of the problem: management.

Management in a sense of drafting the right players, hiring the right coaches and every member of the team including the janitor, having the right time frame and the right patience. It is just not about the players or staff, it about everything and everybody even the stupid PR guy who told us to take a chill pill (I still can’t get over that!) and Dean Spanos has to know it or else this team will take a dive next year and it would be a long time until they back in the hunt.

Why am I banging on Dean? Simple, he’s the alpha dog and as long he goes, so does the team.
