Chargers Coaching Search: Andy Reid

Andy Reid is under as much fire in Philadelphia as Norv Turner is in San Diego. Both coaches could be axed at the end of the season. According to Jason LaCanfora, many believe that Reid would have a considerable interest in the possibility of relocating to San Diego. if both were to get the axe

This is all up to the big boss man Dean Spanos though. He would have to cut ties with AJ Smith and Norv Turner in order to make such a move happen. Is he tired of the status quo yet?

There is no way that Andy Reid could work together with AJ Smith. Andy Reid holds general manager duties with the Eagles and would probably be looking for a similar situation with his new team.

Reid would have to try and work with a different style quarterback than he has had in Philadelphia. He has had mobile quarterbacks like Michael Vick and Donovan McNabb running his show and we all saw how great Philip Rivers throws on the run.

Reid still has not won the big game and has been constantly under fire in Philadelphia. He has been the head coach in Philly since 1999 and has a 129-86 record as their head coach. He has had only 2 losing seasons as their head coach.

So, Andy Reid if he becomes available?

Yes, yes and yes! I’ve been kicking this idea around for a few weeks now, He has a long resume with a .66 winning percentage in his carrier and has made numerous deep runs into the playoffs and has taken a team to a Super Bowl. Sounds like a good option to me, who the hell else are we going to give a shoot? Jon “Chucky” Gruden? An unproven OC or DC?

  • sd blues

He has 2 losing seasons with top talent on his team. Why would we expect anything different?

  • Abraham Banuelos

No way. Replace one loser coach with another? No thanks

  • 619chargers4life

    not to sure about that

  • Pete Spinning

Hell no!!! He is a good coach, but he has the same “player loyalty” problems Norv has. Why would we replace an 8-8 coach who recently can’t make the playoffs, or ever win a Super Bowl… with an 8-8 coach who recently can’t make the playoffs, or ever win a Super Bowl? Especially, when Philly has had some pretty talented teams, as well.

Time for Dean to nut-up, and get us a REAL coach… not a retread. The only re-tread I would be willing to entertain is Gruden, and I’m not even sure about him. I would say Cowher, but I honestly think he is the kind of guy that thinks The Chargers are perpetually soft… he is probably too much of a media “tough-guy” to put that rep on the line for a coaching job in SD. The Chargers are a sweet coaching job, once Norv is gone.. very attractive, actually. Let’s explore ALL of our options first. Hopefully, AJ gets the axe too, and coaches will be flocking!

No stop recycling losers I don’t want Gruden or Reid, no coach should have general manager duties either. Id rather see Chip Kelly than these two overrated coaches

    • blu3ny3llow

I kinda agree with you…however ive been hearing Kellys style might not work in the NFL or with a QB like PR….unless hes that good that he can adjust his offense to what PR can do…i reallywouldnt mind mike holmgren

Thanks loads to the Chargers’ organization. Chargers and Eagles are being tossed around as being the worse team in the NFL again and competing for Matt Barkley. I am getting so sick of this.

  • Saul Lopez

I don’t know if this has a connection to the story but Reid is building a Mansion in SD.

    • Ernie Padaon

Yea… It is part of the reason why people think he would take a job in town

    • Pete Spinning

Thank you for bringing this up.. great comment! I read that too, Saul. Personally, I think its ludicrous! Of course Reid “loves San Diego”.. who doesn’t? The weather is great, and he lives in Philly! What that has to do with hiring the right coach, is beyond me. Shouldn’t even be in the discussion when picking a coach. They could all potentially have mansions here, if hired, right?

Pass. he is Norv, east coast. he is pass, pass, and pass. everyone has said from top to bottom, the eagles would be champions, if Reid ran the football. Case in point. How did Elway get his championships? they ran the football with TD.
this guy can run the charger offense any time, as long as we have a HC that’s telling him, ” run the ball”.

  • Stefanie Smith

Okay, you may think I am smoking something, but what about modeling something like Denver is doing? For GM-get a good ex Charger player—Fouts? Then, a decent progressive manager wherever they come from. But Spanos is going to have to give them some independence and be willing to spend some money.
