Takeo Spikes signed with the Chargers in 2011. He did so with the hopes of reaching his first postseason in his professional career.
After being named a team captain for the 2011 squad, Spikes had been named team captain to his fourth team. Despite playing for 4 other teams, Cincinnati, Buffalo, Philadelpahia and San Francisco, he has never played in even one playoff game.
He has now played in 212 regular season games. I wrote an article in the offseason about him not reaching the postseason and why he would this year. Well, it’s not looking so good.
The Bolts have dropped four out of their last five. Let’s not pretend to ignore his age or the wear and tear that his body has been through in so many regular season contests.
Should the Chargers not make the playoffs, there is a decent chance that Spikes will not be back for 2013. Although he has one year left on his contract, it is very likely that he will be replaced by a cheaper, younger player.
In fact, if the Chargers don’t make the playoffs the 2013 season could feature a lot of new players wearing lightning bolts.
For the sake of Spikes, the team, the organization, and the entire fanbase, I hope that this is the year that he does make it to the promised land known as the psotseason.
But you all know how I feel about hoping for things to happen.
Thanks a lot for reading.
