Carolina Panthers Fire GM Marty Hurney

Jeremy Brevard-US PRESSWIRE

At least we know that teams are allowed to fire people for their poor play! The Philadelphia Eagles fired their defensive coordinator last week and the Carolina Panthers have fired their GM Marty Hurney today.

Former Chargers coaches Ron Rivera, Rob Chudzinski and Steve Wilks are all part of the Carolina Staff and could be looking for a new job with a new GM being brought onto the scene.

Here is the statement from the Panthers owner, Jerry Richardson:

“This was an extremely difficult decision. Marty made every effort to bring success to the Panthers and took the team to a Super Bowl and two NFC championship games. Unfortunately, we have not enjoyed the success we hoped for in recent years. I have the greatest respect and admiration for Marty and will always appreciate the way he tirelessly served the organization.”

Now, does anyone care in San Diego?

As much as AJ pisses me off, is there anyone else out there that’s available???

i would start with Norv first.

I wanted Marty gone, but not for Norv to replace him. I’m afraid that if we fire Norv, we would get downgraded again. I don’t want another Mike Riley.

Does not matter who is the replacement. More important, something has to be done to change the culture that is growing within the Chargers. It isn’t pretty. AJ has not done a great job. He’s let numerous players go out the door. There is not too much left for AJ to destroy either. Norv–well, that goes without saying. Something is wrong and getting rid of the two of them is a step in fixing the problem.

I Care. Coach Rivera is suffering form the same thing Jeff Fox did. A GM that works hard, for little results. just like here in San diego.
The up side. Stay tuned. Coach Rivera and Chudinski may solve the problem of replacing Norv, as HC and OC. this causes am interesting good thing. If HC Rivera is looking for a job, there could be an opening here. Also OC Rob Chudinski runs the same offensive system. on top of that, the organization knows them, and DC Pagano was under HC RIvera. all that needs to happen, is replacing AJ Smith. i ‘d look internally at making Ed McGuire- Asst. GM, or Jimmy Raye- DIrector of player personnel, as interim GM.
i could see this, only if Rivera has coached his last season with Carolina.
    see positive thinking…
