Chargers Lead by 24 at Halftime, Then LOSE!

We already have seen this story before. There are 6 minutes left in the game, but we already know the ending. This is how the Chargers play. Chargers 24 – Broncos 28 right now. Philip RIvers just threw his 3rd interception in the game and this game is pretty much over. Full on melt down!!

Philip Rivers is DONE! He can’t make a clutch play and can’t complete passes to his own receivers. INTERCEPTION! INTERCEPTION! INTERCEPTION! INTERCEPTION! FUMBLE! Ever just lose a game that you were winning by 24 points?!

Never before have I understood why San Diego has such “terrible fans.” They are known to be fair weather fans,

I get it, with this game, I get it. I don’t want to be a fan, it hurts. Are you kidding? 35 unanswered points in the 2nd half?!?!? What the eff is that?
Between last season and this game, Rivers is losing my confidence. He WAS an elite quarterback, now? I dunno.

    #FeelingSuperNegative

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

i feel the same about Rivers right now. i think he has lost it.

      • http://www.facebook.com/krickless Keenan Rickless

He lost it. With pressure he throws 4 ints. I could exhale enough pressure to force an INT.
We either need a new QB or a huge upgrade to our O-line.

        • RussinSactown

A QB to push him at least. Whitehurst isn’t going to push him. We need a young gun with something to prove. The line is messed up bad. The corners. This is a family site so I’ll refrain.

      • http://www.facebook.com/pete.spinning Pete Spinning

Say it aint so Ernie… This was awful. I dont even know what i would write about tomorrow. Thank you for doing it. I’m not sure i could do it. I am devastated for the first time in 3 decades, honeztly. Make it go away.

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

there may be lots of hate and frustration that comes out.

          • http://www.facebook.com/pete.spinning Pete Spinning

Hang in there bud.. Lets lick our wounds. I am taking a bye-week, personally. I need a minute away from being a fan of this team. Hopefully this team is gone when I get back, and a team that doesn’t take entire halves off is in its place. I recommended it for all of us, actually. Except for you Ernie. Obviously, you need to run the site.

          • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Ha… This is my outlet to release my rage! See you in a week

  • Andrew Wall

    We need more wide receivers.

Better O Linemen while you are at it…..Clary blows….

      • andew wall

        i agree.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/James-P-Derrick/1654577989 James P Derrick

Sick and tired of hearing the term Fair Weather Fan. This is BS made up by the high and mighty Season Ticket Holder type fans….So let me ask this, how does it feel to pay all that money to watch this underachieving team lose a game they were up by 24 at the half? Bet that Kool Aid tastes pretty crappy right about now….
I’ll still watch, support and follow this team and only this team, but really, this was a F’n Norv coached team that went from being something to this….Very upsetting….Year in and year out with Norv and this is what we get. Yes, I remember all the sub par lean years, but even those times they didn’t break your heart as bad as tonight would…..I’d expect Norv to make all the same excuses as the coach……
Bottom Line, this team quit after the 1st half…..

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

seriously.. i just got called a typical Chargers fan… why?!? cuz i was bitter that our team gave up a 24-0 lead!!! jerk that called me that must like CRAP play

      • http://www.facebook.com/krickless Keenan Rickless

Yeah, my point was that ANYONE would be bitter about that. And it feels like the Chargers do this kind of thing all the time. *Sigh*
One positive? We are one week closer to Vincent Brown coming back, and I am a real believer in him, I think he is the #2 receiver we need.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/James-P-Derrick/1654577989 James P Derrick

…way to keep the faith @facebook-816990009:disqus, it’s gonna be a long stretch and tough to win in Denver the next time they meet. I’m sick of big studs like Clary getting owned all the time……O-Line is a lot of the issue too…

          • http://www.facebook.com/krickless Keenan Rickless

I think V. Brown can help us. O-Line is effed this season, too late to fix. (We can do it in the draft and FA at the end) But our offense has stalled and our corners keep getting burned. Score more with V. Brown and we will be fine.
AND KEEP MATHEWS IN THE GOD DAMN GAME!

    • http://www.facebook.com/krickless Keenan Rickless

Exactly. With a team breaking your heart like that, it hurts to keep being a fan. I wouldn’t want to be there to watch this kind of a game.

    • Andrew Wall

I saw we get Gruden. Man, i wish I had a billion dollars so I could buy the Chargers. The Spanos never listen to us fans.

      • andrew wall

        saw=say

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/James-P-Derrick/1654577989 James P Derrick

Yup, Chuckie would turn this team around in a heart beat…it’s as if they went in at the half and were like, “We got this in the bag”. Then came out and fizzled….

  • JoseSD

Its official, Rivers skill is in decline and Meachem is not a #1 receiver. Bring in Plaxico move Meachem to the slot its obvious Philip cant hit any receiver thats not 6’5 his throws have no velocity or any zip at all. The problem with the offensive line is with Green and Clary.. They need to try out Hadnot at LG and Harris at RT once Gaither comes back

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

i am with you on this… Vincent jackson made Philip better

      • http://www.facebook.com/krickless Keenan Rickless

I believe in V. Brown. My prediction (if we do the smart thing and swap him with Meachem) is that he will spark our offense and we will go back to winning.

        • andrew wall

I hope so because tonight was the worst performance I have ever seen.

    • andrew wall

      I like the plaxico idea.

      • JoseSD

We saw what Plax can do last year against Cason and his contract would not be guaranteed. Why not?

        • veazy

Yeah, that was Cason. Not the best reason to bring him.

  • http://www.facebook.com/krickless Keenan Rickless

    Oh and Ernie
Nice call posting this with 6 minutes left in a single possession game with the ball in the hands of the Chargers. It was completely winnable when you posted this and YOU CALLED IT!
Haha, just thought it was funny. I came here to rant in the 4th quarter and see “Chargers LOSE!”

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

hahahaha… we already knew it was going to happen. after they took the lead, we know we cant make that comeback. they have not been able to do it for a while… it’s so sad

      • JoseSD

Felt the same way I knew it was over at 24-14 this team has no fight when facing adversity. Rivers seems like he was affected by last years line struggles. He used to stand strong in the pocket and deliver a bomb with a guys helmet abot to ram into his chest now he feels pressure thats not there and throws off his back foot to often

  • http://twitter.com/BReisinger86 Brandon Reisinger

I have to admit that at the half i was worried this would happen, after last week and knowing that manning has had very strong 2nd half. After the INT for a TD from Rivers i know it was over.. If you take momentum away from this team they can do nothing, I’m Done with Norv right now and not sure about Rivers! I never thought i would say that!! Any chance Bisacca step in as HC before the end of the season?

  • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

amazing… i say Philip Rivers is DONE.. and now i am a fair weather fan! I hate people sometimes… they must like CRAP play

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/James-P-Derrick/1654577989 James P Derrick

Nope, you are a fan that was given Rohypnol like the rest of us my man…We keep believing, and this is what we get….

    • http://www.facebook.com/krickless Keenan Rickless

I agree, but saying your QB is done doesnt make you a fair weather fan. It happens to all QB’s at some point. Not to take away from Rivers because he will always be an elite QB but he has lost it and needs to get it back.

      • veazy

The overall atmosphere around the league is that Rivers isn’t elite, but an overrated pretender. All that praise about him being a top 5 QB right before the game just fueled his choker label after the game.

    • RussinSactown

      But who’s left? Clipboard Jesus?

      • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

there is no other option. you ride philip and hope he gets right. but he doesnt look right

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/James-P-Derrick/1654577989 James P Derrick

Attention Dean Spanos!!!! This is not working anymore!!! NEXT!!!!!

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      next man up!

  • http://www.facebook.com/pete.spinning Pete Spinning

I’ve been disappointed before. But, this is by far…. the.. worst.. loss … I have ever experienced in my 30 plus years of being a Charger fan. And, we benched Mathews for ONE fumble. I say Burn those powder blue unis NOW. I never liked em to begin with. What happened here? Philip is a hot mess. There is a HUGE problem when I never felt comfortable with a 24 to zip lead going into half time. How many turnovers was that?

  • [email protected]

fire the bills coach and Rivers

  • fan 1414

Chargers will NEVER win a super bowl with Rivers at the helm! Period. He has the physical ability but has absolutely nothing between his ears. Manning made Rivers look like a kid sitting in the corner with the dunce hat on.

  • [email protected]

sorry just mad fire the coach and River i’m ready for a new team

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/James-P-Derrick/1654577989 James P Derrick

Here are the glaring holes on this team right now….O- Line is the biggest thing that’s jacked (Left Tackle, Right Tackle, and soon, Center if Nick retires after this year…Cason is an extremely burnt beyond edible piece of toast, and Rivers needs a shrink…Just don’t send him to Kaeding’s shrink….

  • http://www.facebook.com/krickless Keenan Rickless

Mark it up as a bad week? Rivers had no velocity in the ball and couldn’t deliver the ball DEEP like he used to. If he can do it again, we got this, but if not we are effed.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

“Mostly poor throws…I wasn’t fooled out there once today” – Rivers on the INTs…. OH BOY

      • http://www.facebook.com/krickless Keenan Rickless

Honestly thats better then getting fooled, you can have an off night on passes, but if you read the team wrong its bad.

        OH!

On the sack fumble TD, the ball gets batted forward by a Bronco, am I wrong or isn’t that a foul?

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

think that is only a foul on offense

          • http://www.facebook.com/krickless Keenan Rickless

Ahhh, well that would explain it. I recall a play where Palamalu did something like “batting the ball” and it got flagged, I must be mistaken.

  • RussinSactown

They got out coached for 30 minutes. Rivers is not capable of forcing the ball in. And the defense. Damn! Where to start with this?

  • RussinSactown

I see the long knives are coming out for Norv again. Another game like this from Rivers and we might see Clipboard Jesus. *Shudder*

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

could be… i bet some people already call for clipboard. i dont even know any more

  • Ignatius

This is the beginning of the end. I cannot see how this team is going to turn around with Turner et al at the helm. I’m sick and tired ,like the rest the people in this forum, of the same Chargers mistakes over and over again. I love my Bolts but it is best that this season goes into the toilet and hopefully it gets a new and better coach. I saw how Philip shoed away Turner, his respect for his coach is lost, this team is lost and so the season is gone. The Chargers are a national joke.

    • AJ Smith

You turn it around by playing Cleveland and Kansas City next.

      • Ignatius

Sorry AJ, you turn it around by firing Norv Turner and getting a good head coach.

    • veazy

I agree with everything after the first statement. The omens have been around for years. The Chargers were officially finished 2 seasons ago.

  • http://www.facebook.com/pete.spinning Pete Spinning

Manning has a forehead Like a drive in movie. That’s all. Nite.

  • Ignatius

I’ve seen Rivers’ interceptions and this is what I conclude:

    1. The first interception is a good one because it was in a deep throw, Gates could have had it and those are 50/50 but the problem was the poor blocking of Mike Harris who let his man pressure Rivers.
    2. The second interception was on another deep pass but this time Rivers had adequate protection and he just under threw it on a post pattern.
    3. The third interception came on a poor read by Rivers and a worse route running by Eddie Royal, I mean, was he secretly working for the Broncos? Not the slightest effort to break free but he just stopped at the cut but by that time the pass was in the air.
    4. The last interception was another poor read by Rivers trying to squeeze a pass to a slow footed – and probably injured – Eddie Royal who again instead of going to the football, he waited for it.

While these interception and fumbles are what caused the Chargers collapse, I place more blame on his decision making. He is the undisputed leader of the team and has to make better judgement because his control of the offense and indirectly, of the defense. He had to stop the bleeding by taking a sack instead of a heave-ho pass, by recognizing a pre-snap blitz and switching to an off-table or counter play, going to his trusted man instead of Royal and Meachem who seemed beat before the play and maybe, just maybe, the Chargers could have pulled up a victory.

These things aren’t new for Rivers, he knows the game in and out, he has played more than his fair share of the game and he knows how to stop a hemorrhaging team.

It’s going to be a long bye week.

  • Froderick_Frankenstein

    Derp a derp a DERP!

  • Time4AChange

Fire Norv, I want to see what Bisaccia can do. Next, trade Rivers for at least a first round pick next year, and 2nd next year. Draft Matt Barkley first, followed by a shutdown CB and a then LT. David Molk starts at C, Mike Harris replaces Clary at RT. We will need a new offensive coordinator, obviously, but I vote keep Pagano. Draft another WR and more offensive line help. Mathews will help transition this team into the Barkley era and light it up on the ground. Oh, and work in more Ladarius Green so he can take the torch from Gates in the next season or two. Green and Rosario will be an ultra athletic TE combo.

is this extreme? Yes… but maybe thats what we need now.

    • veazy

A 1st and 2nd round pick? Didn’t you see how shitty Rivers played? Guess what Gorbachev, you’re head is in the clouds if you think Rivers is still a good enough QB to get anything higher than maybe two 3rd round picks, and that’s pushing it. Second, I think you should stop following the Chargers if you want them to become mediocre with another shitty USC QB who will follow in the steps of the Sanchez, Palmer, Leinart, and, dare I say, Marinovich. Even after your proposed revolution, you will still be here proposing radical changes every year until a superbowl is won. I think it’s easier for you to just pretend you were never a Charger fan since your current identity isn’t even a name, but a disturbingly political-like slogan for this year’s Chargers.

      • Veazy’s Daddy

…and Veazy is your name? Thanks, mom & dad haha. Secondly, the man makes some good points. One poor game isn’t enough to erase Phil River’s pedigree, he should warrant a first round pick, though it would be nice to find a team as dumb as the Raiders… if Carson Palmer warrants two first round picks, it sure would be nice to get something near that for a better QB. Third) Barkley is a shitty QB? Pro style offense for 4 years, 69% completion, hardly throws the INT… you’re a clown, Veazy. P.S. What was wrong with the “political-like slogan” as the username? It is time for a change… get over it, Norv.

No new stadium is getting filled up with fans paying upwards of $98 per ticket to go through a game like what happened yesterday. Too gut wrenching and people are not going to pay to go through that sort of agony.
