Are we ready to take the handcuffs off of Ryan Mathews?
Jackie has started the last couple of games and has averaged less than 3 yards per carry in those games. Ronnie has 40 yards rushing this season and 21 of those yards came on one carry. Neither are a threat in the running game like Ryan is.
Here is the breakdown for number of snaps in the last couple of weeks:
Week 5 vs New Orleans Saints
Ronnie Brown 33 snaps 48%
Ryan Mathews 28 snaps 41%
Jackie Battle 8 snaps 12%
Week 4 vs Kansas City Chiefs
Jackie Battle 27 snaps 43%
Ryan Mathews 21 snaps 33%
Ronnie Brown 14 snaps 22%
Can we take Ryan off of timeout already?
He should see more than 70% of the offensive snaps and the other guys should just be used situationally.
Jackie is a short yardage beast and should take the ball on goal line. If we are at the 2 yard line going in for a score, that sounds like a pretty good situation for Jackie to succeed.
Ronnie should just be used if Ryan is out of breath or if Ryan has to tie his shoes. Honestly, what is a good sitation to use Ronnie over Ryan? Ronnie gets into the game and you know the team is going to pass the ball. They become one dimensional. In the 47 snaps that Ronnie has seen in week 4 and 5, he has ran the ball TWO times!
Ryan has seen 49 snaps in the last 2 games and has touched the ball in 34 of those snaps. He has 26 carries for 141 yards and a touchdown with 8 receptions for 80 yards. That is 6.5 yards every time he touches the football! That is 4.5 yards for every snap he has seen.
Release the beast against the Broncos on Monday Night!
Ryan plays his best games against the Broncos. In 3 games against Denver, he averages 127.3 yards on the ground and has scored 3 touchdowns. Just give him the ball.
The running game needs to be strong to keep Peyton Manning off of the field. It will set up the passing game for Philip Rivers and the offense too. Keep feeding Ryan the rock and let him carry the offense.
