Take The Handcuffs Off Of Ryan Mathews

Free 24… Derick E. Hingle-US PRESSWIRE

Are we ready to take the handcuffs off of Ryan Mathews?

Since fumbling the football in Atlanta, Ryan has taken a backseat in snap counts to Ronnie Brown last week and to Jackie Battle the week before.

Jackie has started the last couple of games and has averaged less than 3 yards per carry in those games. Ronnie has 40 yards rushing this season and 21 of those yards came on one carry. Neither are a threat in the running game like Ryan is.

Here is the breakdown for number of snaps in the last couple of weeks:

Week 5 vs New Orleans Saints
Ronnie Brown 33 snaps 48%
Ryan Mathews 28 snaps 41%
Jackie Battle 8 snaps 12%

Week 4 vs Kansas City Chiefs
Jackie Battle 27 snaps 43%
Ryan Mathews 21 snaps 33%
Ronnie Brown 14 snaps 22%

Can we take Ryan off of timeout already?

He should see more than 70% of the offensive snaps and the other guys should just be used situationally.

Jackie is a short yardage beast and should take the ball on goal line. If we are at the 2 yard line going in for a score, that sounds like a pretty good situation for Jackie to succeed.

Ronnie should just be used if Ryan is out of breath or if Ryan has to tie his shoes. Honestly, what is a good sitation to use Ronnie over Ryan? Ronnie gets into the game and you know the team is going to pass the ball. They become one dimensional. In the 47 snaps that Ronnie has seen in week 4 and 5, he has ran the ball TWO times!

Ryan has seen 49 snaps in the last 2 games and has touched the ball in 34 of those snaps. He has 26 carries for 141 yards and a touchdown with 8 receptions for 80 yards. That is 6.5 yards every time he touches the football! That is 4.5 yards for every snap he has seen.

Release the beast against the Broncos on Monday Night!

Ryan plays his best games against the Broncos. In 3 games against Denver, he averages 127.3 yards on the ground and has scored 3 touchdowns. Just give him the ball.

The running game needs to be strong to keep Peyton Manning off of the field. It will set up the passing game for Philip Rivers and the offense too. Keep feeding Ryan the rock and let him carry the offense.

how we gonna take the cuffs off a dude that cant practice?

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

they probably just gave him the day off. him and clary

      • 619chargers4life

if he needs his rest, then he still needs to be held back. if he cant handle a whole game in which carries are split then they need to keep his butt chained until he has the proper conditioning to handle a split carry game and practice. we all know he likes being on that injury report. i like the kid but is he really ready. if he cant practice then hold him back. i would love to see him get all the carries, every down. but is he really ready. hopefully they did just give him the day off, but like norv said, it all starts with practice, u dont practice u dont play. i guess we will find out today. if he aint still sore and he can practice then yes release the beast. we all know what he has done to Denver i would love to see another huge game from him this week.

today is there real practice day since everything was pushed back for the monday night game. if he doesnt practice today, i will be surprised.

As Ernie said, was day of rest for a few players with game on MNF. They were back today practicing. I have no problem with resting a guy who’s body ha betrayed his physical talents. Could also be resting him to prepare him for a heavier workload. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him get 25 touches this game. #Free24

I think we are going to see him go ball-istic! He just needs to keep his head on straight. You better believe Denver will be trying to punch that ball out, and talking “fumble-smack” between plays. He can’t let himself get psyched out on Monday Night Primetime.
“Run left side, safe. Run right side, safe. Run middle, sooner or later get squish just like grape….Focus Ryan-San”…. lol.
Oh, and here is Karate Kid quote for Norv too.. “No such thing as bad student, only bad teacher.” NOW CHARGE, YO!!!!
