Four Games, Four Different Chargers Starting Running Backs

The Chargers have used four different starting running backs in their four games this season. Wonder who they plan on using as the starter against the Saints?

Ronnie Brown opened the season in game 1 as the starting back. After he struggled, the team went with Curtis Brinkley in week 2. Ryan Mathews returned from injury in week 3 and became the starter, but fumbled his chances away to Jackie Battle. Maybe LeRon McClain better prep for the starting role in New Orleans.

When did we have Mike Shannahan coaching our backfield?

Ryan Mathews should be the clear number 1 back when all the dust settles, but we have to wait and see how long it will take to “ease him back” into action. Will Ryan get another chance to start in week 5 or will that opportunity go back to Jackie Battle?

Even when Ryan comes back, the team may lean heavily on Jackie on short yardage and goal line situations. Jackie has all three rushing touchdowns for the team and he has shown a nose for the end zone. Opposing teams know he is going to run the ball up the middle, but he just jumps over them.

Who do you think should get the majority of carries in New Orleans?

    RM24 will do fine.

On a side note, on Butler’s pick-6, I LOVED ingram’s big block at the goal line. Get this kid blocking for Mathews as a full back haha
