What Will The Chargers Next Roster Move Be?

The Chargers already have announced that they will be bringing up Greg Gatson from the practice squad. He is needed because of the sprained ankle that Shareece Wright suffered  in the season opener. After bringing up Gatson, the Chargers will need to make another roster move in order to get under the 53 man limit. What should the Chargers do to open up another roster spot?

Here are some possible moves that the Chargers could make:

Place Jared Gaither on the IR/Designated to Return List
With all the questions surrounding his return, the Chargers can sideline him for the first 6 weeks of the season by placing him on the IR and then see if he is ready to play later in the year. The issue with putting him on the IR is that we are only allowed to bring back ONE player that has been sent to the IR. We have already placed WR Vincent Brown onto the IR earlier this season.

If it were a race between Gaither and Brown to return, who knows who we would select to bring back. We would have to see how the team performs through those first 6 weeks and then evaluate who could help the team most IF they are healthy.

Release LaDarius Green
The rookie tight end was inactive for the first week of the season. He is still a project at this point. He needs to gain some weight in order to play his position, but releasing him would allow other teams to just stash him on their roster. He has shown a lot of promise, but is not ready now. We would try to sign him back to the practice squad if he cleared waivers, but there is no guarantee that he clears.

Release Curtis Brinkley
Is Brinkley really going to be the answer as a backup running back?  He showed a little more wiggle than Ronnie Brown, but Brinkley has been pushed to the back burner with this team a few times. If Ryan Mathews is ready to go for the first game of the year, then there may not be room for Brinkley. Ronnie Brown, Jackie Battle  and LeRon McClain can all run the ball.

A few people mentioned releasing Richard Goodman or Michael Spurlock, but that really doesn’t make any sense. Teams usually will carry 5 wide receivers on their roster and with players with injury history on the roster, it wouldn’t make sense to get rid of one of those guys.

What roster move would you make?

Let’s be REAL here. Before we can talk about who can run the ball, Let’s have a serious discussion about this O-Line being able to run block. Because Week 1 was really nothing to write home about….Go Chargers!!!

As far as roster moves, the Chargers Brass really need to address the Big Lazy situiation. He’s taking up a roster spot, not playing and has guaranteed money? C’mon Man!
