Ryan Mathews is back at practice. He is recovering from a broken clavicle that he suffered August 9th on his first carry of the season. He returned to practice Monday on a limited basis, but he has yet to be cleared for contact. No public decision has been made on whether or not he will be carrying the ball in the Chargers season opener against the Raiders, but it is highly unlikely.
In my opinion, it would be irresponsible to play Mathews while he is still healing, but I think it would be smart to have him gear up for the game. That will keep the Raiders defensive coordinator guessing. It’s not like if Mathews doesn’t play we would be without a running game. We have Ronnie Brown, Le’Ron McClain and Curtis Brinkley, who have shown they have what it takes.
Chime in and tell me what you think!
