Chargers Injury Report: Garay Returns, Gaither Remains Lazy

San Diego Chagrers DT Antonio Garay returned to practice today. He had been working on the side rehabbing a foot injury, but is back. He makes a big step toward playing on Monday Night against the Oakland Raiders.

The same cannot be said for OT Jared Gaither. Gaither did not participate in practice today and was not even working on the side. The Big Lazy is just getting his normal amount of work done. He is a “professional athlete” so we should not question him!

RB Ryan Mathews is working hard, trying to get into the Monday Night game and did individual drills. He still has not been cleared for contact and I doubt that he will get cleared this week. As long as he is on the practice field, the Raiders will have to prepare for him to play. I definitely respect the kid for putting in the effort to get on the field. If only Gaither had the same attitude as Ryan, we might not be so frustrated at the situation.

OK, I’m betting that Norv is looking at Gaither and saying “I’m dead”. I don’t care if we need to raid the CFL, cut his lazy ass and get someone who wants to play in the NFL, not just get paid!

Mathews had this to say after returning to practice. “You have to be confident about it,” he explained. “If you are sulking
around and feel sorry for yourself, everything takes longer. So you
have to have the mindset that you are going to be back as soon as
possible. It makes everything go a lot faster.” I thought this was a personal jab at the “Big Lazy”. Some athletes wanna be the best at what they do and others are just looking for the paycheck. I’m glad to know what kind of player Mathews is.

Gaither is currently deadweight on the roster and the salary cap. I’m not ready to give up but I think we should find a capable LG until a LT appears. If the UDFA from UCLA can’t hack it, we’re going to have to move Green to LT.

Hold on. settle down. i can feel the frustration, because i am as well. but he’s “a professional athlete”. And this is business. you signed a contract for $24 mil. so the organization is expecting big things from him. 100% or not, he needs to make a “better effort” at getting back on the field. in the mean time, what needs to happen now. Dombrowski needs to be released, make room for either Mario Henderson or Anthony Davis, put Gaither on the pup list. then Aj needs to put those “negotiating skills” to work, on getting the chargers money back. then we’ll see how fast Gathers “injuries” heal.
