Are You Concerned Chargers Fans?

San Diego Chargers fans, are you concerned? The preseason ended and the offense looked like booty. They could not get in a rhythm at any point and Philip Rivers looks like he is going to throw even more intentions than last year.

The starting left tackle is an undrafted free agent out of UCLA. He was laughed at by Jared Allen last week. The situation looks ugly.

Ryan Mathews is still recovering from injury and the backups don’t look like they can carry the load. Vincent Brown will be out for at least 8 weeks and he might not even come back at all.

We have not scored a touchdown in a couple of games.

The defense was rolled over by the San Francisco 49ers today. They ran the ball down our throats and we will open up the season against Darren McFadden and their ground attack.

Are you concerned?

Where is the silver lining?

Melvin Ingram looks like an impact player and we need to see him on the field as much as possible. The defense looks like it will force more turnovers this year, but the game against the niners was not encouraging.

Philip Rivers has been connecting on a high percentage of his passes.

Antonio Gates does look like he is slimmer and faster than last year. This will be huge for Philip and the offense. Gates made some nice catches down the field against the niners, but he did have that fumble also.

The defense looks like it has the potential to be better. The preseason has been a little bit of a roller coaster, but they have shown that they can get after the quarterback and force some turnovers.

This was just the preseason though. Come Monday Night, we will forget everything that happened in the preseason. Remember last preseason, Philip Rivers tore up defenses? His season didn’t turn out too hot.

I wasn’t concerned until we got STOMPED by the 49er second string! I’m a Bolt fan for life, but without a startng LT and a decent running game, Rivers going back to pass all day will get sacked alot, or even throw more interceptions than last year. Our only hope is for Gaither to make it back early in the season, and Mathews to come back healthy. We won’t be able to run unless our Oline gets in sync. Defense looks good but yes, I’m worried about our first game with hated rivals the Raiders. We have to win division games, and it begins in Oakland. Hopefully this brutal loss is a wake up call for the entire team and staff! btw, why doesn’t Rivers start off in the shotgun position to have more time to throw? PLEASE do something before Sept. 10th!

  • AJ Smith

The smart thing for Norv and Rivers to do is come out and run quick step throws like Peyton Manning. That will ease on Rivers being hit so much. Problem is, Norv and Rivers seem not do anything that is smart.

This is getting old. What i mean is, i’m tired of coming here and sounding off like a jerk about my Bolts.
Let’s be clear. nothing has changed. some faces on the roster may have, but deep down, the core of what’s wrong with this team remains. i could go on and on, about AJ saying, ” nothing changes, in dealing with veteran FA pro-bowl players”. i could go on about Norv. about losing VJ. mathews being injured, again. back-ups not stepping up. did i mention injuries. it doesn’t seem to stop. Nothing has changed.
and i’m tired of saying it.
People. Bolt nation. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid, an say this with me…
stop making excuses for franchise that was on the verve of appearing in a Superbowl. going from 14-2 to 8-8. and then “staying the course” as if this time, it’s going to be different. Bottom line, i’m only speaking the truth. if the Chargers don’t like it, give me something else to talk about. Like, ” TOUCH DOWN!! ROBERT MECHUM!!!
til then, they are what they are.

  • blu3ny3llow

Im a lil concerned ..but i guess if gates n floyd stay healthy it should help rivers til he gets on the same page with meachem and royal…..i hope they pick up a serviceable vet LT or a RB like anthony dixon or ivory if they get let go

  • daniel

So AJ gives up vincent jackson, and for the same price gets meachem and Royal…hmm, seems a bit dumb. We have no sproles and Tolbert (they desperately wanted out of SD), and Gaither is acting like a lazy bum. Is Rivers what he used to be? Played decent, but had another bad pick. Will Mathews stay healthy? But in Gates we trust I guess…

    • thegorn

I don’t have much problem with what AJ did in getting Meachem and Royal. Yes, Meachem may turn out to be a bust for us but Royal might be okay. Before the injury, it appeared that Royal and Rivers had some chemistry.

We put too much faith in Gaither. He may ultimately be okay but his career doesn’t give us much hope. Hopefully we’ll find a decent LT on the waiver wire. Losing a pro bowl left side of an offensive line is a devastating blow to our team.

Monday Night September 10th better end with a W or I’ll be really concerned….

Arnie just summed up what I have been saying for the last five years. Read what Arnie wrote again, he is right on the money in what he is saying. To fix the problem Dean Spanos must get his head out of his Butt and get a crew in San Diego that knows how to manage and coach a football team. I am running out of time, perhaps you thirty somethings can wait it out.

    • thegorn

The Spanos clan is the problem.

  • the gorn

We’re a rebuilding team. Much of the core of this team is gone; the window (of championship dreams) slammed shut. We still have Rivers so we will remain a tease. Until someone can build on this glimmer of a new core consisting of Ingram, Reyes, Liuget with real (not journeyman) talent, we will have to live with 7-10 win seasons for the next few years.

I still cringe thinking about AJ’s reaches like Mouton.

  • Brandon Reisinger

All of my concerns lay in the offensive line at this point, Phillip and Norv are going to put points up on the board, our defense is looking much improved and this team is much deeper with plenty of players ready and willing to step up. Not ready to push the panic button just cause we got blown out in a pre-season game. Phillip has been a turnover machine in the preseason but if we can get our starting O-line back and buy him some protection he’ll return to his former self. I don’t think we will see this offence fully start to click till week 3-4 though, not to say that we will not win games in that stretch but i really do think that they will all start to “gel” around that time and we will once again be a force to be reckoned with… but i guess time will tell #BOLTUP

  • sanford peisner

We got killed before Gaither locked in. We don’t have break away back. If Rivers is running for his life could get ugly. Maybe AJ will pick up someone from waivers, to early to panic but very concerned. Think defense will be OK. hopeful AJ gets pro active

    • ChargerGirl Cindi

I’m pretty sure AJ doesn’t know what proactive means.

      • Ernie Padaon

isnt that what norv uses for pimples? was that low?

        • ChargerGirl Cindi

  • ChargerGirl Cindi

Concerns = Norv is still our head coach. The left side of our line looks like crap. Rivers last play before coming out of the game was an INT which will mess with his head. Oh, and Norv Turner is still our head coach. ha ha Seriously, if I hear one more commentator call him a “play calling mastermind” I will reach into the TV and punch them right in the face. We literally ran Brown 10 times in a row last night. WTF?

    • Ernie Padaon

dont know if you knew… norv is still the head coach. SIGH
