Should Philip Rivers Be Playing Against the Minnesota Vikings?

“Training camp practices, walk-throughs and classroom work are what’s paramount in getting ready for the regular season,” Smith said. “The games do give you a taste of real speed and real-time contact that will be the norm during regular season on every snap. But with all due respect to the great former NBA star, Allen Iverson, I believe it is all about the practices. That is where you become a great player and a great team.” – UT San Diego

Did AJ Smith just reference Allen Iverson?

Philip Rivers and Antonio Gates will both be sitting out this preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings. Some people feel that they should be out there and others feel that this is a good decision.

Philip has not looked sharp thus far in the preseason and some fans feel that he needs to get more work in with his new receivers. He needs to get in a rhythm with Robert Meachem and the other guys on the roster. He needs to cut down on those turnovers and drive the team to touchdowns.

Other fans would rather keep him away from danger and save him for the regular season. He gets to work with these receivers in practice all the time and he will develop that chemistry with them on the practice field.

What side of the fence are you on? Should Philip be playing in this game?

I know this would be backwards and everyone in the NFL might laugh but why not play Rivers towards the end when Allen and the starting defense isnt playing?

i thought about that too and i think it would be awesome!

That’s when all the kids desperate to make the team are out there! They will think if they break our starter they are in for sure. Keep him on the sideline.

        very good point

Doesnt mean they can get through the line better than the starters. I agree anyway tho. Keep him on the sideline

Good decision to sit Rivers and Gates, just imagine they have a season ending injury in this meaningless game, would clipboard Jesus take the helm as well as PR or McMichael in the tight end position? Don’t think so.

  • MC Boltman

Sure its good to keep him away from danger, but he hadn´t that much success stories this preseason & btw 3 INT. Maybe some playtime with Meachem would also make sense.
But yeah after all its probably the best decision to keep him out of that game.

No, No, Nooooooo!!! Especially with a patched up O-Line.
