Philip Rivers and Antonio Gates Will Not Play Against Minnesota Vikings

It will be QB Charlie Whitehurst that better have his track shoes on against the Minnesota Vikings. Whitehurst will get the start on Friday against Jared Allen and the Vikings allowing Philip Rivers a day of rest and a day to avoid the Minnesota pass rush. Consider Whitehurst a stunt double for the game or a crash test dummy.

Antonio Gates is not expected to play on Friday either. We need to keep both healthy for the regular season. Losing Vincent Brown last week could have contributed to this decision and the fact the 60% of the offensive line will be reserves.

Keep the stars healthy! No need to waste anymore bullets in the preseason. Good decision by Norv (did I just really?).

I feel 50/50 about this decision….i feel like he should have played to get used to the new players……i know the practice together but im sure it isnt the same….he could have got hurt the first game of the first snap too

i know what you mean… i want to see him make some completions out to Meachem too… but would rather get him to game 1 healthy

Good. We can’t afford any more injuries to our key players.

FINALLY…. Thank You! Norv’s a little late to the party on this one, but it’s a start.

    • Ernie Padaon

better late then never… cant believe i actually think Norv made a smart decision this early in the season. :)

      • Pete Spinning

Wait until he keeps running it up the middle non-stop in the last 2 minutes of the first half… you’ll be taking it all back.. hahaha.
        Naw…Seriously though… let’s hope Norv kicks that old bad habit ; )

        • Ernie Padaon

hahaha.. i probably will get mad at norv at the coin toss… “WHAT?!? defer?!?! i want the ball!” hahaha

  • Pels04

I agree. Its a smart decision. Sure they all could use a little more practice with each other but its definitely not worth the risk with the OL the way it is. Breathe a sigh of relief!!!
