Did Jarret Lee do enough to earn a roster spot?

As my dad and I were watching last night’s game, we were pleasantly surprised with how solid Jarret Lee looked. On at least three series he drove the offense right down the field. He commanded the huddle well and threw nice balls. While he wasn’t perfect and at some points looked like a rookie, for an undrafted free agent I was happy. He threw a nice deep ball and had good accuracy. In my opinion I think our backups should be Jarret Lee and Kevin O’Connell with Clipboard Jesus being cut. He has to do it again againstDallason Saturday and if he makes it to week 4 of the preseason I’ll be happy. The 49ers defense will give the offense a good test and with Phil Rivers only going a series or two in the final game of the preseason, we should get to see what this kid is really made of. For his first real game experience 15/22, 235 yards, and a td is beyond expectations. Norv must be smiling somewhere knowing he may have a young man to groom into a quarterback. Tell me what you all think about Jarret Lee and his performance so far. Thanks for reading.

expectations are always relative… relative to whose expectations they are and relative to the scenario. rivers against 2s and 3s? no beyond expectations to carry that kind of stat line… lee though? definitely. ez on the bolt brethren… we don’t need to behave like raider fans. : )

        • davacho

lmao! i never said you said that regarding rivers… that why there were no quotes present in my post! lol. i brought up rivers to prove a point that expectations are relative… i guess your GED isn’t helping you out too much here…

and as far as “calling out the wrong person” goes? see my post above where you clearly discredit yourself. whitehurst did not start the 2010 playoff game against the saints… he didn’t even play. looks like you can’t even help yourself! staff writer that’s a bully? shame on you.

Dude! the issue is that you were ragging on him for getting stats wrong. he was wrong but so were you. you don’t have to get crazy personal about all of this. you already admitted you were wrong so i’ll leave that alone, but seriously.

and no, i was not bullied. and no, i don’t know you. and i’m happy to meet and discuss anything you’d like in person. ernie has my cell number so we can meet up to work things out if you’d like. i’m a huge fan of BOLTBEAT, but i got to be honest- you’ve been a real downer today. : )

not sure if that’s what your question mark meant.

          • http://twitter.com/BoogaP #TheBoltFather

You come at me about a “GED”, yes I know what that is, Lol, and say I am getting “crazy personal?” You have acted as though you “know me.” Plain and simple. You don’t. You don’t know a thing about me.
Everyone has my cell number. I have printed it in articles, the comments section of articles, and on Twitter. You ever feel like talking let me know. No, I’m not going to meet you at the monkey bars after school. :) I bet if we were to talk football the only way that you could hang would be if you could look it up on the internet. BUT, I don’t know you. Weird how you know me.

you’ve got to be the most juvenile adult (i’m assuming you are an adult) i have ever come in contact with. just goes to prove that jerks in grade school grow up to be… well, jerks.

where do you get the impression that i think i know you. anything i’ve called you out on has been based on what you’ve said today. so spare me your crap. you called me out about being a tough guy hiding behind my keyboard, so i put it out there that you can call me- don’t turn it around. this whole thing started because you were acting the fool.

you want to engage in this “who’s football cock is bigger” garbage and it was only about you spouting off like you knew something that clearly (and self-admittedly) you did not. i know your pride is wounded and you’ve got to be the BMOC on this site since you are a contributor/writer, but your ineptitude at trash talk and staying on point is laughable… so chalk this up as a life lesson for yourself that most people don’t care for fools. tomorrow is a new day- i’ve grown tired of you and your BS. i’m out.

Wow, I really struck a nerve with you boy. I sincerely aopologize. The fact that we “came in contact” over the internet is a bit weird though….. But, as you have made it clear, you don’t know me. :)

My question is what kind of deep ball will Whitehurst throw? Norv can, as I said, groom the guy into a better thrower. For an undrafted free agent who played a few games in college he wasn’t that bad. We don’t know how Charlie will throw because he never played for us in the regular season and had one start in Seattle. He’s only getting older and I’d be interested to see how he fares whenever he comes back.

      I love lamp.

      • http://www.facebook.com/rrrosa1 Ricky Rivers Rosa

I’m asking you kindly to tell me how I misquoted stats and how many starts Charlie had in Seattle, if I’m wrong help me by telling me what the right stats are.

I change diapers all the time. My stats are from a different source. Not worried about you at all. I used to talk to him on the phone all the time. I have a basis for comparison.

          • davacho

LMAO! you are claiming that your stats from a “different source” are correct! yah, that nfl.com is so untrustworthy…

and then the douchebaggery (and hole) gets deeper with an “i used to talk to him on the phone all the time” comment- just admit you are acting the fool and let’s move on.

          • http://twitter.com/BoogaP #TheBoltFather

How old are you? Honest question. And, yeah, Ricky still has my number I’m sure. When I say “used to” I mean in the last month or so.

Like Rivers, the first team 49er defense will play sparaingly as well in the last game of the preseason. What kind of test will the backup’s backups provide any Charger QB?
Were you high when you wrote this? LMAO!

      • http://twitter.com/BoogaP #TheBoltFather

Wait a second….. you’ll do the cinnamon challenge??? If I go missing from the Dallas game, look for a guy in a Freddy Krueger costume slashing Whitehurst’s achilles! I had a friend try the cinnamom challenge…. Didn’t end well… for him. We all laughed for a long time!

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

Hahahaha… Go for it, would love to see us sign Billy Volek anyway. :)

  • http://twitter.com/BoogaP #TheBoltFather

I was wrong abt CW. Didnt start playoff gm. Changing my diaper. :)

  • 619chargers4life

did i think he did enough? well i dont know about enough but i think he just made a strong case for himself but there is still 3 more games left, if he shows improvement for the remainder of the preseason i do think they should continue to groom him for years to come. he had a good presence in the pocket in my opinion from how fast he has came along, i see a lot of upside compared to clipboard you know who. then trade him i.e. clipboard u know who. lol

In three years Jarrett Lee will be a starter on a NFL team somewhere in the league; just not the San Diego Chargers. It will be one of the final blunders that seals the doom that has been the legacy of A. J. Smith. It is the Wes Welker of 2012 all over again as we hopefully see the end of the “dumbing down” effect of Smith’s reign in power with our San Diego Bolts franchise. Whitehurst has the game experience and knows the Chargers offense better than any backup the Bolts could find, so we know he is a lock on the number two role this year. With an abundance of RB’s on the roster I would cut one of them so as to have Lee gain the game experience to
play a significant position in the Chargers offense for years to come.Better yet, finally cut the number one bust Larry English to make room. How about it A. J. what great move are you going to make this year?
    Pops

    • http://boltbeat.com/ ChargerGirl Cindi

I will let him go if it gets AJ walking papers.

    • http://twitter.com/BoogaP #TheBoltFather

Good stuff 61. Good stuff. I like Lee as well. Not impressed with his deep ball at this point but it’s only the first preseason game.
Haven’t heard from you in a while. Glad to see you back.
      Thx Pops.

  • http://boltbeat.com/ ChargerGirl Cindi

He did, but our management cannot make any good decisions. If they do keep him I will be happy and shocked at the same time.

  • http://www.facebook.com/rrrosa1 Ricky Rivers Rosa

I guess this worked, wether for the right or wrong reasons, this got people talking. Even if there were some arguments, we all had a discussion right? I feel I did my job here. :)

    • Lee

Jarrett Lee under threw 2 deep balls to Vincent Brown, one caught and one intercepted, but he looked better, and certainly seemed less pressured Thursday than in his games I saw with LSU.
It would have been good for me to have seen Kevin O’Connell play a few snaps.
If he can’t get any snaps with the Chargers, I’d like to see him get a chance with another team.

  • miketuck

More than enough, if Turner would have been playing for scoreboard the Chargers would have scored 2-3 times more. But we were looking hard at our running game. Lee showed more effective defense reading than Whitehurst has. I was pleasantly surprised by the young QB and will have to say A+ for Smiths bring him in the group.

  • RickyRivers

@davacho please back off of @#theboltfather he has admitted he was wrong and it’s over with. I thank you for defending me but it’s all good now. Let’s all just get along, what happened happened its done. Please let it be.

  • Timothy

he can be the starter for them. go drew brees and saints and lsu. jarrett lee can the team to the superbowl if hes the starter

  • John De Angelis

I really like this kid and would rather keep him over Whitehurst, his potential is far greater.
