Morning Dump

At Chargers Park, the team’s year-round training facility a few miles north of Qualcomm Stadium. There wasn’t much to observe during my morning visit, as the squad was going through a pad-less walkthrough. Still, here are some thoughts from conversations with players, coaches and general manager A.J. Smith.
The simple line shows Cason, the Chargers’ 2008 first-round draft pick, allowing four catches for 25 yards against the New York Jets. Problem is, three receptions went for touchdowns. Not a good average by any count.
Bill Williamson: It’s not bad. The key is Ryan Mathews’ health. I don’t think there is a solid starting answer other than Mathews on the roster, but there are plenty of players who are capable of carrying the ball a few times a game. I think Jackie Battle, Ronnie Brown, Curtis Brinkley and rookie Edwin Baker could all help this team and don’t forget new fullback Le’Ron McClain. He can carry the rock as well to give Mathews a breather.
