Chargers Sign DT Aubrayo Franklin

After the surprising release of Luis Castillo yesterday, the Chargers filled the hole with another defensive lineman by signing 6-1, 317 pound DT Aubrayo Franklin (Bill Johnston). Franklin recently played for the New Orleans Saints and the San Francisco 49ers and will be another big boy that can rotate up front on the defensive line.

The Chargers already have Antonio Garay and Cam Thomas on the roster at defensive tackle and Franklin will add to that depth. Coach Pagano will have to find a way to rotate all these guys up front on the line.

Last season was disappointing for the defensive tackle after starting 10 games and collecting 19 tackles. He had 4 solid seasons in the middle with the 49ers before that. The 49ers were so impressed with his production in 2010 that they used the franchise tag on him.

Hopefully, he gains back the form that he had in San Francisco.

    • Bleu

@epadaon seriously how about the corner position. thats the only thing that im worried about rite now were dont even looc good on paper in that dept.

      • MorganJosepher

@Bleu U dot need great corners if you can mount an effective pass rush.

  • JonVivian

I’m starting to get jacked about Brandon Taylor, he hasn’t been getting much pub.

    • Bleu

@JonVivian hopefully the guy does his thing in training camp. alot of competition is lined up for him see wut he does

  • David Wright

I hope he is rough and tough!!!

  • 619chargers4life

im interested to see how this one plays out

  • arnie

i hope it works out. i’m betting it had something to do with Castillo’s injury, that warranted the change.

  • Bolts_NFL_music

Damn still don´t like that thought too much that Castillo isn´t Charger anymore.
He had a great time with the Bolts.
Hopefully that blue and yellow spirit catches up to Franklin and he has a better year than with the Bounty hunters.

  • All Charged Up

Now with Dielman seemingly coming out of retirement, and the Bolts signing RB Battle, we’re looking good at the RB position. Wonder who the odd man out will be?

  • MikeTuck

Help at DT isn’t nearly important as the Olinemen. Why has Smith concentrated on the Tackle for so long. Our bench is full of defensive monsters. Ok teach Garay Diemans position and it will work but enough of the dline already. Your gambling on a overstated Oline that if injurys happen we could see a offense struggle badly. I don’t know why Smith doesn’t get it Turner sure as hell should.

  • drewwall1

I hope he is being used as a DE. it does not make sense to lose and end and gain another tackle.

  • MikeTuck

@drewwall1 Amen; we need a Tackle only the offensive kind. Smith seems to address nothing but the defense, which he’s done nicely but enough is enough. Unless he plans on cornering the market on DT’s and trading a bunch for a great OT.

  • MikeTuck

@MorganJosepher Your damn right, you don’t need the greatest at any position if everyone carrys out their job. No Corner can stand up to the time we let QB’s have & it wasn’t the players fault we didn’t have a pass rush, it was due to Manuskys prevent defense 24-7. He hardly used his OLB to blitz and worse used LaBoy over Barnes. Jammer and Cason got the rap when it was the total failure of a coaching staff.
