Chargers Possible 53 Man Roster

Now that the painful 2011 season is in the distant past, we Charger fans have something to look forward to in the upcoming season.

With very solid draft additions like Melvin Ingram, Kendall Reyes, Brandon Taylor, Ladarius Green, Johnnie Troutman, (already on IR), David Molk and Edwin Baker and some great free agent signings like Robert Meachem, Eddie Royal, Jarret Johnson, Demorrio Williams and Atari Bigby to name a few, I sincerely feel that this upcoming season will be special, and could probably be the best season in Charger’s history.

I know it’s early and all but I thought I would put together an early peek at what the final 53 man roster MIGHT look like. Notice I emphasized “might”. You never know if one or two of the undrafted free agents could catch the attention of the coaching staff and end up on the team. Some of the players I don’t mention could also end up on the active roster or the practice squad as well.

Now remember, this is a very preliminary look. I am curious to see how close I get.

Some of you out there may disagree, which is fine. This list is in no way, shape or form, my so called “picks”. This list is just an educated guess. I’m also assuming that the Chargers will only go with 2 quarterbacks.

  1. K – Nate Kaeding

ooooh… i love these… Hadnot is more of a guard, so we would need another center behind hardwick. Think we keep Colin Baxter to back him up. Also think we will have 6 receivers on the roster…. either Parrish or Spurlock will make it.

    no ronnie brown? interesting

    • RMainwaring

@epadaon Hadnot could play either since we’re kinda light at the guard position. I know Dombrowski can play Tackle or Guard but I would just prefer he stay at Tackle which is what I think he’s gonna do anyway. I made up this list a while ago so I didn’t take into consideration maybe one or two of the most recent signings like Brown.

    • RMainwaring

@epadaon I had to do an update to include him and some others.

    • BoogaP

@epadaon Hadnot can play both guard and center. I like Molk personally.

I think Brown makes it too but his contract makes it easy to cut him. But, again, I think Brown sticks and makes an impact.

      • RMainwaring

@BoogaP  @epadaon Time will tell. I think we may be surprised who stays and who goes. My opinion is that the roster needs to be increased.

  • boltsfan1972

Are you out your mind Randy? Gamble makes team but Andrew Gachkar and Bront Bird don’t and Polk is gone Before Corey Finch!!! That 53 man Roster not on this planet !!!!

    • RMainwaring

@boltsfan1972 I said these ain’t my picks. I may have missed on a player or two.

  • Huy Nguyen

Edwin baker over ronnie brown? U must b smoking dat good shit

  • Spaceghost Purp Palmer

    Lmao

  • boltsfan1972

But this is a special year for the Bolts!!!!
I do agree with that Randy LOL

  • charger17/tkc

I look at are Lbs a im just amazed at the talent and depth!

  • RMainwaring

I updated the first list as I had left out some good players that I forgot about with the help of BoogaP. Like I said, these aren’t my picks, just a possibility.

  • charger17/tkc

I look at the LB’s and all  see is talent and depth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • RMainwaring

Some players that could be on the bubble are David Molk, Colin Baxter, Jacob Hester, and Richard Goodman. Remember that the Chargers have gone with 9 offensive linemen for the past 2-3 years. Michael Hayes may even be in the mix..or not.

    • charger17/tkc

       @RMainwaring
I believe Molk will make the team he was a stud in college and possibly will be Hardwick’s  replacement….

  • RMainwaring

The coaches will have their work cut out for them. It’s gonna be tough to cut some good players. The competition level will be extremely high this year.

  • Bleu

    looks about rite…….

  • VEazy

    Corner position looks pretty thin…

    • BoogaP

@VEazy Agreed. But who would you cut to bring in another CB?

      • VEazy

@BoogaP  @VEazy With 2 FBs and 4 TEs, maybe Dante Rosario.

        • RMainwaring

@VEazy No way. Norv Turner loves Rosario.

        • BoogaP

@VEazy Norv likes him too much from what I hear.

Although I agree, Acce from the UT says that Rosario is the #2 TE.

        • BoogaP

          Ass-ee. Oops Imean Acee. Sorry.

    • BoogaP

@VEazy we do have about $2.86 million in cap space. I could see them bringing in a CB.

We are going to be forced to cut some good players. Thats a good problem to have, so to speak.

      • RMainwaring

@BoogaP  @VEazy You know what will really suck is that the good players we cut may go to division rivals.

        • charger17/tkc

@RMainwaring @BoogaP @VEazy If we do bring in a CB from this list i would have to release
Gackar he played well on ST but nothing really other than that,….

        • BoogaP

@charger17/tkc @RMainwaring @VEazy I’ll let Sam handle that reply if he sees it.

  • dedubb4

    @BoogaP love number 53!!!! @DarrellStuckey

  • biggsybolt

For some reason I still see Stuckey beating out Bigby for the starting SS spot. I also think Brown or Brinkley get cut, past years tells me that only 2 RBs will be kept, especially with the addition of Mc Clain.

    • Bolts_NFL_music

@biggsybolt Yeah I also think Stuckey is underestimated by most of the fans. And when they signed Brown, I knew this won’t be Boonah’s year…Maybe we’ll soon see some changes at CB position too

  • street

this is a slightly different list than this morning… i guess he figuired out that polk got waived in june. also no domorrio williams.?.  the inside word is the guy is impressing and will get substantial playing time.. gachker…out.

    • boltsfan1972

@street I don’t know about williams but Gachkar makes team only if for special teams value

    • RMainwaring

@street Yeah, actually I had this list made up months ago. Had to update on the fly with some help from Booga. After making this list up, I realized just how difficult the decision process will be for the coaching staff. Some really good players are gonna be cut. I just hope Norv and the coaching staff choose wisely.

      • street

your braver than me!! most  years iam surprised by a few young players, and broken harted by a veteran injury(knock on wood)… hell even if you pick it right these guys will bring in a free agent 3 days after the 53 is handed out…and cut a guy that fought his arse off all summer…cruel game.

        • BoogaP

@street …..Cruel business. The players play a game but it has now become a business.

          Care to debate that? lol

          BoltUp!

        • joeynicks

@BoogaP  @street  @RMainwaring It’s the cruelest thing in the world. I wasn’t prepared at all even from the jump form high school to College. In the end it is all business, get your job done and you have nothing to worry about. I may be a ‘Canes fan but look at Rudy, “Ease up one bit… one hair and your gone!” That’s also why I don’t like the season extension. Another quote Ray Lewis, “Why take more blood from the rock that has already bled enough?” Great list! I don’t know what I think of Goodman. I hope they put Michael Spurlock to return kicks for us, guys got beast speed!

        • BoogaP

@joeynicks @street @RMainwaring Im in favor of Goodman as KR but I couldn’t agree more about your reference to no room for error, not verbatim, obviously.

  • charger17/tkc

Another player I would add is Johnnie Troutman. Aj most have seen something in him by drafting him in the 5th round injured and having a DUI which Aj usually doesnt like (allow).

    • BoogaP

@charger17/tkc Troutman will almost certainly be placed on I.R; therefore he will not be placed on he active 53.

Agreed that A.J. must have seen something in him to still take him in the fifth.

      • charger17/tkc

         @BoogaP
So if ur on the IR ur not officaly on the roster.

        • BoogaP

          @charger17/tkc @BoogaP

Great question bro! You are on the roster, BUT, you don’t count against the “53.”
