Best Offense The Chargers Ever Had?

Could this be the best offense we’ve ever had? Eric Weddle thinks so. On his recent interview with Siruis NFL, Weddle was raving about the addition of Eddie Royal and called him the best slot receiver in the league. He said that this could be the best offense that we’ve ever had and he wonders how teams will be able to match-up with Royal, Robert Meachem and Antonio Gates.

Wasn’t Eddie Royal riding the bench last season? Eddie is a great addition to the team, but the hype that is surrounding him from players like Weddle and Coach Norv Turner is incredible. If he is as good as they say, then why didn’t the Broncos try harder to keep him and why didn’t they get him on the field last season?

Eddie Royal will be a huge upgrade from Patrick Crayton, but we will have to wait to proclaim this the best offense we’ve ever seen. Weddle was on a team with Vincent Jackson, Darren Sproles, Michael Turner, Ladainian Tomlinson and Antonio Gates all on offense and he still claims that this year’s offense could be the best we have ever seen. Hope he is right, but Eric Weddle needs a drug test!

I Think it will work well because of the variance in speed of the recievers will put the D in a lot of 1 on 1 matchups at different levels

the praise that the coaches/players give will always be a bit hyped up. Broncos could of kept royal but they got stokley to play the slot instead. Don’t see that as an upgrade but says something, he wasn’t worth the extra money? Also the chemistry between rivers-royal,meachem,spurlock hasnt been seen yet so way to early to say better offense than last year especially with the absence of VJAX

healthy gates, new receivers,no more 1-2 punch of RBS i.e(tolbert-mathews) ronnie brown is the same type of back as mathews mix of good and bad.

This is easy. Because w/ Tebow, you don’t use a slot guy. You use two big recievers that can block and get down the field so Tim can just chuck it to either overthrow them by 20 yards or get a 30+ gain and / or TD.

No place for a slot guy in the Tebow offense unless he’s a RB that can be a threat w/ the option.

By the time they got Peyton in, Royal was on the way out. Remember Royal w/ Cutler? He was a force in the slot. He is STILL a force in the slot.

Can be a poor-mans Tiny Darren for us.

Bold statement, I guess we’ll see… On thing is for sure though, this will be the most DIVERSE offense we have had. Gone are the days of being able to double team Gates and V-Jax, We will be able to put multiple weapons on the field and spread the ball.. Will be a match up nightmare for opposing coordinators

When you pick up a guy in FA and seems to get more hype than we outsiders believe he deserves you cant always ask the “Why didnt the former team keep him if he is soooo good” because we have had our fair share of parting ways with top tier talent lol… And plus maybe ER is wowing

    • RMainwaring

@JRoy16 Right. Just because a guy doesn’t work out for one team doesn’t mean he can’t be productive for another. Every offense is different. I’m excited about this season. Note to other teams: Be afraid…be very afraid!!

Have to admit that i’m salivating at the idea of Meachem and Floyd on either end, Gates and Royal in the slot maybe even through a Brown or Rosario in there and Mathews coming out of the backfield…… How the hell do you cover all of them??!!

  • Bolts_NFL_music

Yeah that´s a hell of a statement from Weddle. But as surprising that Royal offseason hype is to me, I guess they are right. Last year with Tebow…that obvisiously wasn´t his year (and not “his” QB). But when you look back some more years, you can see an Eddie Royal who rocks on the field. Actually it´s funny that “we maybe have the best offense ever”, cause most people outside of the BoltFamily are constantly sayin that we´re gonna struggle cause of the loss of Vjax. But what “they” don´t see is the variance in our offense – and that (along with our improved defense) will be the magic Bolts Super Bowl factor 2012. BOLT UP!

The speed to open up the field is great! Im really hoping Norv runs the two tight end set, either with Gates and Green/Rosario/Mcmicheal. The patriots(cheaters) did it last year and it worked great. We  definatly have the personal.

  • davie726

@davie726 @fansided @BB_Chargers @BoogaP best offense?? Yet to be seen but i think there is truth to Weddle’s comment. Royal is a burner

    • davie726

@davie726 @fansided @BB_Chargers @BoogaP If he still had Mike Shanahan there’s no teling how much different his career would be. His

@davie726 @fansided @BB_Chargers @BoogaP concussion didnt help last year either. I expect big things from Eddie Royal this season.

      • BoogaP

@davie726 @fansided @BB_Chargers Im on record saying he’ll be the fantasy sleeper of the year in the entire NFL. Big things bro! #BoltUp

idk know about, the best ever but I do know that having a guy like Royal carving up the middle of a defense along with antonio gates is lethal. depth is the key and in terms of depth from a recieving standpoint this is the deepest we have ever ben. wr is a position that we should of tooc more serious in seasons past now that they have done that the afc west is in for a big problem. That dude meachem is a threat and the thing is we have some great pieces to go with him. meachem, floyd, royal, brown……. those are 4 names that I dont think many secondaries in the league are ready for. they are so good tgat you cant double one and single the other out bkuz they are all capable of big plays……… te is another position we have depth at and I feel like ledarius green is the hier to the throne……. we gone shake the afc west up this year but its all on the defense they ultimately dictate our, season……..

  • RussellGrant

I hope he’s close to right on the best offense hype.  I’d love to see us lighting up teams again.  But he has to think when he’s gushing all over one player over another.

Doe Eric Weddle’s Royal man crush mean he’s hating on Vincent Brown?  Don’t think us old Aztecs will forget or forgive that, Ute!

  • MikeTuck

Again I agree with the weapons being the best weve had in a long time but the Oline is not even in the same league as a few in the past. When is Smith going to realize that it starts in the trenches. No gripes here about his moves this summer but he left one extremely big hole and that is an unupgrated Oline. Troutman will prove worthy but he should have looked harder in free agency. There’s nothing better than a proven Olineman.
