Eddie Royal Impressing The Norval

Every time Norval speaks about the offense this offseason, he gets giddy about the new addition of Eddie Royal. He recently said that Eddie Royal is the most impressive player that he has coached in the last few seasons (Schefter). Better than Philip? Better than Gates? Sproles? Vincent? Ryan? That is impressive! I can’t wait to see what Royal can do for us in the regular season!

Royal is going to contribute to the team in a number of ways. First, he is the best punt returner on the roster. Anytime he goes back to return a punt, he is a threat to bring it back for a score or a long return to set up the offense. Will we use him there though? He could be a huge offensive weapon and we don’t want to risk injury on special teams.

On offense, he could be used in the slot or even out wide as the starter. In his rookie season, he caught 91 passes for 980 yards and it looked like it was the beginning of an impressive career. Injuries slowed him down and then the Donks had a change in their offensive philosophy which made Royal start to fade down that Donk bench. It is not like Tim Tebow would have been able to hit him with a pass, if he got open anyway!

Now Royal is hoping to jump CHARGE his career here. Former Chargers make sweet things happen on other teams all the time. Darren Sproles killed it last year. Drew Brees is a monster. Michael Turner….. and on and on and on.

It is time that we made that pickup and reap the benefits! Eddie Royal will be that guy!
