Chargers Undrafted Free Agent To Keep Our Eyes On: Michael Hayes

Mandatory Credit: Thomas Campbell-US Presswire

The Chargers have a history of bringing in undrafted free agents and getting a lot of production from them. We have brought in players like Kris Dielman, Antonio Gates, Stephen Cooper, Malcom Floyd and Mike Tolbert as undrafted guys.

This season, one of the undrafted guys that we should pay attention to is RB Michael Hayes from the University of Houston. He stands at 5-9, 200 pounds and has great balance. Watch some the tape on the kid and you will notice that he always keeps his feet moving and knows how to stay standing after first contact.

He played 2 seasons at the University of Houston and the 2 seasons prior to that he played at Junior College with some quarterback named Cam Newton. They ended up winning the National Championship with that JUCO team!

Hayes is in a battle for a roster spot with another rookie RB Edwin Baker. The Bolts have decided to delay adding a veteran back to the roster and these rookies will get more time to impress the coaching staff.

I wonder if he would consider using this for his twitter photo… FREEBIRD:

       @boltsfan1972
       He weighs about 35 lbs less than Tolbert. At least.

      BUT, I like him a lot too.
