Who Will Be The Chargers Slot Receiver: Eddie Royal or Vincent Brown?

Who will be lining up in the slot to START the season? We all know that this can change at half time in the first game since Malcom likes to get tangled up when he jumps for the ball. BUT at the very start of the season, who do we think will be lining up in the slot?

Last season, we had hoped that Patrick Crayton would be able to bounce back from his injury and put up the nice numbers that he put had in the previous season. That didn’t turn out the way that we had hoped and Vincent Brown ended last season stealing his snaps.

Vincent Brown will be one of the favorites to start in the slot. He doesn’t have burning speed, but he knows how to get open and he will make sure to attack the ball while it is in the air. There were a few miscommunications with him and Philip last year, but they should be able to iron those things out after a whole off-season together.

Brown might not be the favorite heading into camp though after the acquisition of Eddie Royal from the Denver Broncos. Royal is a speedster and he makes defenders miss in the open field. He can make a lot of good things happen when he has the ball in his hands, but he also has had some injury issues in the past.

Regardless of who wins the job, both are expected to see time on the field. Hopefully we can keep everyone away from the medical staff and we can have a good competition between the two in camp. Both will be good targets for Philip during the season and Norval should have fun using all those receivers.

Who do you want to see win the slot receiver job?

    first and second down i like royal so he can take a defender away from running play and fast but third down I like Brown very physical and great hands

      @boltsfan1972 Nailed it.

    I say unless Royal blows people away it has to be Brown.  As a rookie he stepped up.  He’s a crisp route runner and not afraid of the middle.

    I want it to be Vincent since he was with the team longer but Royal is a veteran & probably the fastest receiver we have & we need that speed

    @chargersbuzztap Vincent Brown is the best

    I would like to see Royal, I think Brown is better suited on the outside especially if Floyd goes down. Those two catches against Oakland proved a lot to me.

       @biggsybolt I agree

      @biggsybolt I agree he really is good when that ball is in the aIr…….

    I think Brown will have it, at least at the beginning of the season. He stepped up when needed last season and Rivers seems to like him a lot.

    After Floyd eventually goes down, I see more Brown on the outside and Royal in the slot.

    From Royal or Meachem, I hope to see the reverse pass they did with VJax the past seasons, it will really be great to have speedsters on the team!

    I think Brown learned a lot last year which he will show on the field this season. And I think Rivers and Brown connect pretty well (in the meantime). So I guess we will see Brown starting. We will see how it turns out as the season goes on, but at start I think we will see Vincent Brown playing.

    Royal should but its close, Brown is a great but might lack a little experience and need a little experience. Royal is entering prime WR age and if it weren’t  for the fact he had Tebow throwing at him, he would already be great, putt Rivers under centre and you have yourself a great slot reciever. If Royal is very succesful at returning for the Chargers they might protect him a little and let Brown take more of the snaps. Either way Charger fans should be happy tbh

    I’d like to see them put Brown in the slot, and put Royal in spread formations and rearurns. Brown earned a spot last year after showing really strong in the touches he had. You leave your other team you compete for the spot. Brown ought to be our starter for the first couple games at least. Royal is new and can be utilized as a returner, replacement for injurys, and in spread situations.

    Ya Know we might just have the best of two worlds with these two. Brown is evidently strong judging from last years performance. Royal is very quick so the matchups could change snap to snap, team to team. Variety helps, just as much as depth itself.
