Finding The Replacement For Kris Dielman

Everyone wants to write in Tyronne Green as the instant replacement for Kris Dielman on the offensive line. He stepped in for Dirty Diel last season and did well in the starting lineup.

Green was taken in the fourth round of the 2009 draft out of Auburn. He started 8 games last season and started another 7 games the season before. It sounds like he has put in a lot of work this offseason and he wants to take over that starting role.

Going into training camp, Green will be given every opportunity to be the starter on the left side. He will be given competition from Brandyn Dombrowski though.

Dombo did awful filling in at left tackle last season, but he still seems capable at left guard. He has been on the roster since 2009 also, after signing as an undrafted free agent out of SDSU. He has started 15 games for the team all over the line.

This will be one of the battles in camp to keep your eyes on. We don’t have the anchor in Kris Dielman on the roster anymore, so the starting gig is up for grabs. Who will be the starter going into the season?

I have absolutely nothing to say bout this post except if we can get a guy half as dirty as dielmann we will be n good shape

  • BoogaP

Green has played multiple spots as well.  Glad you did this Edub. These camp battle articles are cool.
I agree that it is worth watching.  Per Acee, which u and I have both read, Green has worked his butt off to turn fat into muscle and we can only hope that he is able to maintain that work ethic throughout the season.  Sounds like the job is his to lose at this point.
    Competition breeds excellence.

    Hey all-
Make sure you get in on the poll.  I would be interested to see if anyone votes for Dombo.  I have to admit that I think he is much more suited for the guard position.

  • epadaon

dang… i expected at least one vote for Dombo… knew it would be a blowout, but still

  • epadaon

i wonder if Brandyn Dombrowski will see the article and vote for Tyronne Green… hahaha.

41 to ZIP right now… amazing!

Offensive Guards generally are quicker and more agile so they are capable of pulling, trap blocking and getting to the 2nd level (LBs) while offensive tackles generally are bigger and stronger to bust open holes for the running game. Due to Dombrowski’s size, it’s no surprise he didn’t do so well at tackle. The competition between him and Green will depend on which one of them are quicker and more able to get up the field and block.

@RMainwaring Should have read this before writing my post, great points man!

  • Bleu

This is a position you truly have to have a nasty attitude to play.

  • VargasM

Voted for the underdog. Don’t forget he did do a decent job at LT when Big Mac held out. I also believe that Dombro is. Enter suited at LG due to his size. I have been paying attention to Green’s focus during the offseason however. My hope is that both bring a lot of competition to practice making them both better over all.

    • epadaon

@VargasM I LOVE that you stood up for your vote!!! “yea it was me… what?!?!”

  • Bleu

Bottom line I hope both of them go hard and are solid we need depth at that position

  • BrandonReisinger

I voted Green, but i have to admit that i really need to read up on both of them a little more… Everyone is putting a lot of emphasis on pass protection, and we all know that Green stepped in and did a great job to close out last season. but equally as important is the run game!! Dielman was a beast of a pulling guard and loved to run the ball!! Anyone studied game tape on both of these guys to see who looks better in the run game???

  • epadaon

i went to another computer and almost voted for Dombro, but i didn’t want to be the only guy other than @VargasM … i like the idea that he is standing alone in this vote!! but standing his ground like a boss!

  • Joel Ayala

Those are some HUGE shoes to fill. But Green better step up!!!!!! Dombroski is better fit for back up.

  • BoJackRusso

I said it before and I’ll say it again. Dombro will be the starting LG.

  • cmads433

@chargersbuzztap Good Luck, because there is only one Dielman!!!
