2012 NFL Draft: Day 2 Possibilities For San Diego Chargers

After the first round complete, let’s start looking at what is available today. There are still some nice players that are available that could make an impact with the Chargers. Let’s run through a quick list and hope that they are available when we choose again:

Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama
He is a problem child off of the field, but this guy is one of the best cover corners in the draft. He is not an AJ type guy, so I should probably just shut up now.

Cordy Gleen, OT, Georgia
There were some that projected the Chargers selecting Glenn with the 18th pick in the draft. We are in the second round now and he is still available for us.

Alameda Ta’amu, NT, Washington
This is one of the best nose tackles in the draft. We brought back Antonio Garay for a couple of seasons, but he won’t be here much longer than that.

Trumaine Johnson, CB, Montana
Johnson is a tall corner with good speed. We have to start looking at possibilities to replace Quentin Jammer now.

Brandon Taylor, S, LSU
After Mark Barron and Harrison Smith were drafted, there are only scraps left in the secondary for us to choose from.

George Iloka, S, Boise State
This would be my next choice to bring in at safety, if he is available for us.

Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford
Just because the Jared Gaither has had a history of being lazy and we do have Jeromey Clary on the other side, it would be nice to bring in a tackle that can push them.

Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State
Another tackle for us to to consider.

Lavonte David, LB, Nebraska
Why do I have another LB on this list? I just love this guy too much to take him off! Just put him on the field and he will make some plays. I still think he can be converted to safety.

What players are you eyeing today?

About converting a linebacker over to safety……That is how I feel about Sean Spence.

  • sdboltzfan

Im all for next pick being Lavonte David and picking him as a safety for us. Third round LMJ, 4th will be o-line. We can pick up a premier corner in next years draft if necessary. For now i say we see what Gilchrist and Wright can become.

    • epadaon

@sdboltzfan i would love to see wright and gilchrist get a shot, but i know i would really want jenkins if he is sitting there

      • BrandonReisinger

@epadaon  @sdboltzfan  Yes!!! Jenkins has so much potential!! Upside: could be one of the better cover corners in the NFL, Downside: A bust and we are out a #2 pick… Reword far out weighs the risk IMO….. now is the time to be aggressive and take some risk

           @BrandonReisinger  @sdboltzfan take a chance, take a chance, take a chance

@epadaon  @BrandonReisinger  @sdboltzfan !st round talent at 49? Take that any day.

I like Iloka if for no other reason than he can cover the tight ends and play the box.  Another tackle would be a good thing so that they don’t get complacent.  I’m hoping Gaither is looking to prove people wrong but if not, a hungry rookie is a good thing.  Alameda Ta’amu looks like he could be  a good fit if we want him to learn next to Garay.  Whatever we do, we need to get nastier on defense.  I would love to see a defense that can slice through the line at will like the Giants.

    • epadaon

@RussellGrant dominating dictating defense… AJ has been stressing that… let’s see if he can make that happen

Except for the 2 safeties the Boltz won’t get any of these guys if they don’t move up. However, we should be happy. We can always complain about AJ’s 1st round picks but, more often than not, he’s pretty solid in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.
My pick if we stay where we are would be Lamichael James or Lavonte David. I don’t care that Lavonte looks to be a tweener. He’s a flat out baller who has the same measurables as Derrick Brooks. My only questions is whether AJ would draft him consider him since we already have Butler and Mouton and is he fast enough to play safety if LB is out of the question.
Lamichael will be gone by late in the third round so I wouldn’t mind if AJ pulled the trigger on him. Especially since 3 RBs are already off the board.

Move Jammer to safety and get Janoris Jenkins. So he has a little bit of a rough history. He just needs to mature a little. He’s too good to pass up.
