Today is Alabama’s Pro Day and there are a couple of prospects that the Chargers should have their eyes glued on for this. LB Courtney Upshaw and SS Mark Barron are a couple of playmakers to consider for April’s draft.

Barron was not able to participate at the combines because he had hernia surgery, but he was out participating during the Alabama Pro Day. Barron is considered the best safety available in the draft and he was out strutting his stuff during the Pro Day. Merril Hoge was on site today and was very impressed with Barron’s fluidness. Barron’s unofficial 40-yard dash time was 4.54.

Here is what Barron said on his performance:
“I think it went pretty good. From all the feedback I got, people said I looked good. I’m OK with the performance I had today. I’m probably at about 80 or 90 percent.” (ESPN)

Courtney Upshaw said he came in weighing at 279 pounds. That is HUGE for a linebacker, but he just has a different body type than most. Michael Gehlken compared his body type to LaMarr Woodley. Upshaw’s 40-yard dash time was 4.77.  Scouts wanted to see how well he changed directions and it appeared that he did well.

Here is what Upshaw said on his performance:
“I wanted to run well. I heard a lot of negative stuff from my performance at Indy and I wanted to do better. I was focused on the 40-yard dash and wanted to be in the 4.7 range. I heard a lot of times and I’m happy with it.” (ESPN)

Could we see AJ Smith selecting one of these guys on draft day? If we select either of these guys, then I think I will be happy. Roll Tide.

Oh yea, I know we are not looking for runningback in this draft, but I had to share what RB Trent Richardson did to the Browns RB Coach… enjoy:
