Getting To Know New Chargers LB Jarret Johnson

October 2, 2011; Baltimore, MD, USA; New York Jets tight end Dustin Keller (81) is separated by an official from Baltimore Ravens linebacker Jarret Johnson (95) at M

I went over to Ebony Bird, FanSided Baltimore Ravens site, to get a little more information on our new signing Jarret Johnson and here is what Tynan Patrick had to share with us:

Johnson is the epitome of a team player. he has been as good as almost any player on the Ravens D for years but he never is talked about the same way as Suggs or Ngata because he is a very quiet guy. He is a top 10 OLB in the league and arguably the best run defender in the league at the OLB position. He sets a mean edge in the run game and will really help the Chargers against power run teams like the Broncos (2 of JJs best career games have come against the Broncos in the past few years). Chargers got a big time player for a big time deal. If I were a Chargers fan, I would be very excited about this signing, he is a great guy and about as classy as they come in addition to being a very solid player. Players don’t get much more consistent or reliable. He will be a locker room leader and a defensive anchor for the next 4 years. The other thing about JJ is that he doesnt really have a weakness in his game. he is at least solid at everything, good cover man, servicable pass rusher(not spectacular but he gets home more than he is given credit for) and elite run defender.

Some Chargers fans started screaming “WHO?!” when the name was first announced, but we will definitely know his name by the first game of the season. He will add some toughness to this team and will help try to shed that soft label off of this team.

I said who but when you look at his highlights on NFL.com and that hit he put on Hines Ward (That’s straight up elder abuse!) and you see that if he comes in ready to play, that he’s going to make some noise.

@RussellGrant after reading posts from ravens fans and seeing how upset they are, I think this is a great signing. AJ built this team in to a power house before, he can do it again

I was born and raised in San Diego and love my hometeam, but I currently reside in Maryland.  Do you want to know who he is…let me tell you from The Ravens fans point of view.  He is Ray Lewis’ back up.  The one that filled in for him quite a few games last year when Ray was out.  Did anyone even notice Ray was out…NO the guy is great!!! W2G Chargers!!!
