Chargers Sign WR/KR Eddie Royal to 3-Year Deal

Welcome Royalty into Charger Park!

Eddie Royal finally finished peeing in a cup or whatever he was doing to take his physical and lollygagging around to ink a new deal with the Bolts for 3 years and $13.5 million.

He will add the element that was needed in punt returns and he might even steal the kick return duties from Dick Goodman. He adds more speed to our receiver units. Team him up with Robert Meachem and we have one of our fastest units we have had. He will probably trying to push for that 3rd wide receiver spot with second year man Vincent Brown.

He has always torn us up and now we can use him here and hope he does the same thing. More offense to our team, still waiting on defense. Sounds like they are pushing to bring Tolbert back first and if he doesn’t take our deal then we are going to move on to Jackie Battle. I am not a huge fan of Battle, but we will see what happens.

great pick up! now we need to keep tolbert.

This receiving corps will be insane!  Now more defense.  Give me a pass rusher and a safety.

So have we given up on Garay?

    • epadaon

@A_Eme_O_Ere i dont think we have given up on him yet.. but they will let him shop around to see his worth and he will probably notice that the market is not that big

I am the minority in this, but I think “Tollhouse” Tolbert is severely overrated.  He can be a load–once he gets through the hole and gets going, but he is VERY slow to the hole and lacks anything resembling a burst.  He’s fairly quick for his size once he builds up speed, but I’d rather have a guy that can HIT it QUICK.  I would say that the VAST majority of Tolbert’s big plays have come out Shotgun draw plays against 5 or 6 DB sets.  Against these Nickel and Dime packages he gets a big hole through the trench, builds up speed, and starts rumbling over Nickel corners–but he STINKS when he has to create on early downs.
I will say that he has good hands, and has a decent knack for twisting and diving at the goaline.  But his pass blocking skills are average at best and he is soft for his size…he also has the same ball security issues (if not more) than Mathews without the big play capability.
I would rather have Battle.  He’s a big, physical, power runner who often times looked like a poor man’s Priest Holmes running those power tosses in KC last year.  He will also be cheaper. Beat me up if you like–but I’m not a Tolbert fan.

@NickGoulart1 hahaha… my friend hates me because on game day, i yell I HATE TOLBERT over and over again… i hate that he takes some carries away from Ryan and I know Ryan would be able to do something better with the ball in his hands.

      • Ragnarokx2

@epadaon Agreed….Matthews would have a crap load more touchdowns if Tolbert didnt take his carries at the goal line…When tolbert was in on certain situations I would say…really norv, you put in the fattest guy on our team to run to the edge to get a first down….See Denver game…We would have been in the playoffs

    • epadaon

@NickGoulart1 so no hate from me

  • ThomasBell

I wonder if AJ Smith is signing all these FA to package picks to move up in the draft.

    • epadaon

@ThomasBell hmmmm… that would be interesting. who would you think to select? Ingram?

  • A_Eme_O_Ere

Food for thought before I leave for work: Bleacher Report’s top free agent signing of 2011…..Eric Weddle. That’s right, the guy that Warren Saap couldn’t pick out of a line up was picked as the best free agent signing out of all of last year’s free agents. Fast forward to this year. If you look at all the free agents that the AFC West got I believe you’d have to say that San Diego did the best job (so far). However, last year we were all saying that Phily had just won the Super Bowl because of their free agent signings. Just sayin’.

  • BoJackRusso

Really really like this move.Who is masquerading as AJ Smith the last few days? All these smart moves are not in his usual game plan! Our offense is going to scare the crap of opponents. OK AJ, let’s get a pass rusher now!

  • Ragnarokx2

I am more excited about this move then the meachum signing…maybe because he has basicallyl beat us in two different games now (one with the help of Ed .Hoch)

    • epadaon

       @Ragnarokx2 dang that muscles

    • BoJackRusso

@Ragnarokx2 Ed Hochuli. I hate that guy. I’ll bet Tim Dobbins hates him more though.
