It Appears Vincent Jackson Will Be Heading To Tampa Bay

Christopher Hanewinckel-US PRESSWIRE

It sounds like Vincent Jackson will be playing football in Tampa (Acee). There has not been an official contract signed yet, but it sounds like he will be heading out east to have Josh Freeman throwing him passes.

Now it is off to Plan B at receiver. There has already been a lot of activity with receivers in free agency. Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan are both going to the Redskins and Marques Colston re-signed with the Saints. Maybe the Chargers will go after Brandon Lloyd. Robert Meachem, Laurent Robinson and Mario Manningham might be considered also.

UPDATE:
It’s a done deal in Tampa. Vincent signed to a 5-year $55.5 million contract.

    If he walks away, AJ won’t take responsibility for it. Here comes the shrug and the “Well, we tried” speech.  Colston is off the market.  Marshall is gone.  Try to get Garcon now.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ epadaon

       @RussellGrant Garcon posted on his facebook that he is signing with the Redskins

      • RussellGrant

         @epadaon Way to go AJ!  Now we need to probably draft a #1 out of college and throw him in the fire!

        • A_Eme_O_Ere

           @RussellGrant I second that emotion.

  • drewwall1

    Meachem and Manningham appear to be out best options.

    • Vardog

       @drewwall1 I agree.  There’s a few more out there like Williams, Ward, Caldwell too.  Anyway you look at it, we need a #1 receiver now :(

  • Ricky Torres

    Why vincent jackson don`t leave rivers needs u

  • RussellGrant

    Well all the people who bet on Tampa Bay win the poll.

    • CindiSpears

       @RussellGrant Crap, I had Chicago!

  • CindiSpears

    Fine.  Go then!…. Please don’t go.  Ok, I have mixed emotions on this.  If he wasn’t such a jackass I would be upset.  Then I think about how he is the only big play maker we have.  Hines Ward anyone?

  • Vardog

    Way to go Smith…you ass!!  I hope you crash & burn, ya bum!

  • NickGoulart1

    If he’s willing to take big $ in Tampa Bay, I don’t want him.  That team is not close to winning.  He’s cashing in.
    Get Meachem or Robinson, spend the saved $ on defense.

    • RussellGrant

       @NickGoulart1 Hold on, he asked for a deal two years ago and last year.  Why wouldn’t you want a five year deal when the next play you can blow a knee and end your career?  I can’t fault him for wanting a deal and neither can you.  He was franchised tagged twice and AJ couldn’t get a deal done?  IN TWO YEARS!  WTF?  He said he wanted to come back.  Rivers wanted him back.  Norv wanted him back.  That fail is on AJ for not wrapping this up.

      • NickGoulart1

         @RussellGrant
         it’s too much $ for a WR dude.  Just wait until the contract #’s come out.  I bet you it’s 5/60.  No thanks.

        Oh and guess who the other major player was–Miami.  Hmmmmm

        • RussellGrant

           @NickGoulart1
          The point is we could have locked him up long term at a lower figure.  In two years you could have been figured something out.  We also finished at 8-8 last year and the teams around  are getting better.  Not the time to get frugal.  But that said.  Now we need to see what AJ has planned.

        • NickGoulart1

           @RussellGrant
           Numbers just came in 5/55 with 36 guaranteed and 23 in the first two years.

          His agents wanted the same deal 2 yrs ago. He ain’t worth it. Good receiver–but aint worth it.

        • NickGoulart1

           @RussellGrantcorrection…26 guaranteed, 36 in the first 3 years.  Still too rich in my opinion

  • KennyRedman

    it’s official….5 year deal

  • Trong Lam

    I’m over it. FUCK YOU LAME J SMITH.

  • LeonardoVelazquez

    Laurent Robinson?  The guy that was on our team at cheap during the preseason?  Hmm…

  • tank58

    its a done deal….ticked off 2night…

  • A_Eme_O_Ere

    And with the 18th pick the Sn Diego Chargers pick ….Stephen Hill from Georgia Tech!
    Since we don’t have to pay VJ $10 million a year we should have the cap space to sign Gaither, Garay, Tolbert, Hester and some kind of impact defensive player(s)…right AJ?

    • RussellGrant

      @A_Eme_O_Ere Let’s hope AJ has a plan. A real plan.

    • RussellGrant

      Not thinking we’ll get Tolbert but if we can bring Mario Williams out of Houston we would be in good shape on the defensive side.

      @A_Eme_O_Ere

      • Vardog

        Yes, it would be great to land Williams, but I think the price is too steep.  Buffalo has a lot of cap space and I bet he’s going to get around $90M/6 yrs like Peppers got from Chicago.

  • RussellGrant

    Robert Meachem. 4 year deal

    • Vardog

       @RussellGrant My blood pressure went down a little after this signing  LOL

      • RussellGrant

        I stopped saying what the f— AJ? At least for now.
