If loving the Combine is wrong, I don’t wanna be right! The NFL Scouting Combine starts tomorrow and continues until next week. Not only is this the only new football related event on TV, it’s a chance to see pure talent minus the pads, uniforms and attitudes. It is exciting to see what these kids can pull off even with broken bones (remember Julio Jones pulled off a 4.39 40-yard dash with a broken foot), pulled muscles and absence of their team. It’s probably the first time they have been expected to perform as individuals in a football environment since they were kids.
This is where records are broken and these boys solidify their status as NFL prospects. I can’t wait to see Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Morris Claiborne and Matt Kalil. Matt is a power tackle and a great possible draft choice for the Chargers. The Combine is like Christmas shopping with football players. Let’s hope that AJ Smith has the right shopping list. I do not want to end up with a bunch of broken boned, big attitude two seasons and out players. Think “franchise” Mr. Smith, think “who can be a Charger for his entire career”.
Scouting at the Combine is not just about what looks good. It’s about the whole package. AJ Smith needs to use the same formula he used when picking up LT and Philip Rivers. Throw away the plan from the last few years, it didn’t work. Go back to basics.
This is when the season begins my friends. Watch it!
