Monday, the title of this story is: Will the chargers give Vincent Jackson the franchise tag? Perhaps a more fitting question is: Should the chargers give Jackson the franchise tag?
LaDainian Tomlinson is an unrestricted free agent, and the Chargers could use an upgrade at backup running back. Tomlinson has 294 attempts for 1,194 yards over the last two seasons, which is an average of 4.1 yards per attempt. This is not far off from his career average of 4.3 yards per attempt. I am not saying that Tomlinson is anywhere near being the RB he was in the prime of his career. I am saying that he is still productive enough to be a backup running back.
Quentin Jammer joined the Chargers in 2002 after being drafted 5th overall. He held out during training camp, but was active for 14 of the Chargers’ 16 games that year and started 4. Since then he’s started in 141 regular season games and 5 playoff games over 9 seasons and only missed 2 games due to injury. He’s currently the longest tenured Chargers player.
The Minnesota Vikings are in the hunt for a deep threat number one wide receiver. Assuming they don’t end up with Justin Blackmon in this year’s draft, they will be going after a free agent receiver, and WOW what a crop of talented wide outs are available! But which ones are really, legitimately available for our boys in Purple?
