Nick Hardwick Will Play Next Season… Will It Be For The Chargers?

Christopher Hanewinckel-US PRESSWIRE

As we ended the football season, there were a few players on our offensive line that were questionable for the upcoming season. Marcus McNeill, Kris Dielman and Nick Hardwick all were up in the air with their careers. Yesterday, Hardwick told the UT San Diego that he will be back next season:

I feel great. I’ve been training my butt off since then. I’m ready to have my best season yet

So Hardwick will be playing next season, but now the question is: will it be for the San Diego Chargers? He is set to become a free agent in a few weeks and there should be a few teams that want to bring him in. We will see if the Chargers will make the move to keep him around. He will be one of the best centers available in free agency.

He is hoping to stay in the blue and gold:

I obviously have a lot of best friends in that building, including on the coaching staff. I’d certainly like (to stay). I hope I’m in their plans. If not, we’re ready to go on.

In my opinion, Hardwick has to be one of the top priorities for the Bolts to bring back this offseason. We need to protect Philip Rivers up front and Hardwick will give us the best opportunity to do that. There are all kinds of question marks on the front line, but he has been rock solid every season.

Hardwick is 30 years old and will be entering in his 9th season and still should have plenty of good seasons left in his body. We need to bring him back and figure out who else will be playing along side him up front. Will it be Jared Gaither and Kris Dielman? Only time will tell.

Nick is the rock of that line. I think cementing him and Dirty Dielman in place, and signing Gaither are paramount. Then we should worry about signing VJax. Hardwick has been underrated for years. Can you imagine how many picks and sacks from PR if Nick wasn’t the guy in front of him? I know we have Baxter and Scott M, but this needs to happen.

@BoJackRusso dirty diel looks like he is coming back too… which will be HUGE for the line. I think we get a deal done for Hardwick and then we would just need to secure that left tackle spot

@epadaon Exactly. I also think we keep Dombo but put him back inside at guard where he belongs. Off subject, but even if VJ flies the coup, as long as Phil is back there and upright, good things can happen. Worst case, if M80 and VBrown are on the outside, and maybe Walters in the slot, magic could still happen. There are still a lot of free agency questions though.

But it all starts with Nick in my eyes. I’m sure Phil feels the same way. If he can lobby to keep your best buddy BFF Norv The Neck Turnip, we can damn sure keep #61.

@BoJackRusso it all starts up front and that should be our priority over receiver, just like you said! if philip is not standing, then nobody will catch the ball!

@BoJackRusso @epadaon if our recieving core lookd that bad my eyes would hurt
