Eric Weddle Selected to First-Team All-Pro Team

Now look at that signing by AJ Smith actually working out! After getting a lot of crap for signing Eric Weddle to the largest safety contract in the league, Weddle came back and showed us why he deserves that money with the season he had. Weddle beat out Ed Reed for the prestigious nomination. Weddle had a great year and we need to surround him with more impact players on defense.

Cheers – to Eric Weddle for proving every idiot on the NFL Network wrong! ( I wonder if Warren Sapp can pick out Eric Weddle from a lineup now? )

Jeers – to Ernie Padaon for continuing to propagate the myth that Eric Weddle is the highest paid safety in the league. From NBC Sports…

When word broke of safety Eric Weddle’s new contract with the Chargers, agent David Canter proclaimed that Weddle is the “highest paid safety in NFL history.”

As it turns out, he’s not even the highest paid safety in his division.

We smelled a rat immediately, but it was the least of our concerns while trying to avoid getting thrown off the constantly bucking bronco that is 2011 NFL free agency. Now that things have slowed down (a little) we had a chance to do a little research.

Just last year, the Chiefs gave Eric Berry a six-year, $60 million contract with $34 million guaranteed. Eric Berry plays safety. Ergo, Weddle isn’t the highest paid safety in NFL history.
