According to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune Norv Turner and AJ Smith are as good as gone. His article says Chargers President Dean Spanos, according to those around the team and around the league, feels he has “no choice” but to go in another direction at head coach and that Turner will be fired at season’s end.
While I want to believe what I am reading here I am a little nervous when I read “optimism is almost nonexistent that the Chargers will salvage the season, but it is believed a miracle run to the playoffs would save the jobs of Turner and Smith.” I have believed this since our slide and I wonder if the players know this too. I suspect their pride would not allow them to throw games just to get rid of Turner, or would it?
Smith is rumored to be headed to the Raiders.
