Where would the Bolts want to play Osi? Would they line him up at defensive end and give competition to the rookie or Luis Castillo. OR would they be looking to line him up as an outside linebacker so that he can chase after the quarterback. He could line up with Shaun Phillips and form a fierce pass rushing duo.

Even though we are rumored to be interested, how could we support Larry English, Antwan Barnes and Travis LaBoy at that position? Also at defensive end we have Corey Liuget, Luis Castillo and Jacques Cesaire. I just don’t see a spot for him on the roster and we still have a hole in the middle of our defense at middle linebacker. Osi would be looking for a contract extension as well and I don’t see that happening.

It would be a great move to bring in the pass rusher, but there seems to be other holes to fill first.

@epadaon Steve Smith From NY! Won’t happen but I can dream

  • epadaon

@a_jaay23 we all can dream!! thats why we are fans

  • Nathan_Perry

@epadaon there is a 0% chance of osi coming to SD

  • epadaon

@Nathan_Perry its almost a joke that we are mentioned as a team interested. i agree

  • epadaon

@CoachRRRjr he would want a contract extension also as part of the deal.. we know how AJ can get a little stingy

  • CoachRRRjr

@epadaon Would you rather have Cesaire or Osi at DE? Seems like a no-brainer to me. If A.J. wants a ring he’s gotta take a shot now!

  • epadaon

@CoachRRRjr thats an easy answer… would rather have osi than any of our DEs.. he is better than luis and the rookie

  • Jeffrey Perkins

I think it is time to go back to 4-3 def and get Osi.

  • Bolt Beat

we are missing a middle linebacker and we do have a DT corey liuget playing at end… makes a lot of sense, but dont think they can make that big of a change that quickly… they could throw in a 4-3 look though and start getting that in motion

  • Jeffrey Perkins

If Aj makes it happen, Chargers and Eagles in superbowl. I know Merriman

  • Jeffrey Perkins

If Aj makes it happen, Chargers and Eagles in superbowl. We need a beast on def.

  • Bolt Beat

could you imagine bob sanders, takeo spikes, osi and sp95 on one defense? oh man!!! cmon AJ… i am not one to beg, but we all are beggin

  • KennyRedman

I dont know why you say that AJ Smith is Stingy…He made Weddle, LT, and Gates the highest paid at their positions. It’s not that he doesnt like to pay out money, it’s that he believes it is better to get rid of a player one year too early, then one year too late. The Chargers have a cap, and you have to spend your money wisley, not over-pay a few players like Dallas, or Jokeland did/does(who are both in cap trouble). “In AJ I Trust”

  • epadaon

@KennyRedman ok you are right.. he is not stingy.

BUT he will not pay for players outside of the system.. he pays guys he drafted in and have been here for a while. he pays the players he wants to retain.

  • San Diego Charger Fans in Austin

I dont see it happening. It would be nice, but I see a serious bid for Cotchery beore Osi.

  • Bolt Beat

definitely expect us to make a play for cotchery like we did for crayton last year. it will be a reunion for him and rivers

  • LordOfTheGregs

Osi crushes quarterbacks, he would definitely be worth multiple years. People can always be moved around! Bring him in!!

  • KennyRedman

The giants have dropped the price from a 1st to a 2nd round pick

  • @kencaminiti21

A 2nd Rd pick for Osi Umenyiora makes a lot of sense right now. They would move him to OLB in the 3-4 and he’d probably start opposite Shaun Phillips. Barnes and Laboy are backups and I think you have to make English earn his stipes as opposed to just handing him the job like it seems the Chargers are doing.

If you think about the OLBs that were available in the 2nd round of the draft last year– Akbaar, Houston, ect. Umenyiora is better and has more upside than all those guys so a 2nd round (and maybe a 5th or 6th) would be worth the price.
