This 2011 roster seems far from complete and AJ needs to look at bolstering the middle linebacker spot on the team. The top 3 middle linebackers on the team are going to be free agents whenever this lockout is over. Do we bring those guys back or do we look outside with free agency or a trade?
Lets take a look at some of the possible options:
Stephen Cooper is the brains of the defense. He may not be the athlete as some of these guys, but he studies the offense and knows where to put people and knows where to be to make plays.
Kevin Burnett is coming off of a career year with 6 sacks and 80 tackles. He makes plays and knows the defense.
Donald Butler is the linebacker chosen in the draft last season and was unable to play last year due to injury. He is healthy now and is ready to see playing time.
Takeo Spikes is a free agent from San Francisco and has played under defensive coordinator Greg Manusky the last 2 seasons. He is getting older, but still is making plays. He may take a pay cut for a chance at a championship.
Kirk Morrison is a free agent from Jacksonville and is a San Diego State guy and it seems that he wants to be back in California. He may head to San Diego to get his first chance at the playoffs.
Nick Barnett lost his starting position in Green Bay after an injury and may be on the trading block. One of his favorite places to play is San Diego and he would add intensity to the defense.
